When i used to buy the Merlin Premier League Album as a kid i remember Paul Parker in defence then he suddenly disappeared, did he retire or what? Remember David May? What a Douchebag
Too many injuries - he missed most of the 94/95 campaign through injury and when he got fit Gary Neville was already first choice RB. I think he went to Derby and then on to various other smaller clubs before his eventual retirement. David May was a legend David May! Superstar! Got more medals than She-ar-er!
Douchebag !! Love it. All I really remember David May for is for standing on the back on the stand when we lifted the European Cup in Barca, about five feet higher than anyone else.
I met Parker in '95 at Neville Southall's testimonial, he had his leg in plaster, Really nice guy as it happens, down to earth, and was genuinely gutted with not playing. Big Norm was the guest speaker, yet another United player who's acreer was blighted with injury, top bloke too, Sparky was the guest of honour, he basically spent the night having his photo taken and signing autographs .... even for the Everton fans, poor Southall nobody took that much notice of him
Great little right back Paul Parker, was part of the legendary 1994 double winning side, and also Englands 1990 world cup semi finalists, and injuries did for him. He often appears at the corporate junket stuff at United, like a lot of the old players.
Parker went around a few clubs like Derby and Chelsea, before moving into management in non-league. Managed the mighty Darts local rivals, Welling United, for a short period. Then he did the commentry for Setantas coverage of the Conference. Not sure if he does it for Premier Sports. Now he is involved in the Blue Square Premier in some capacity (not sure what exactly). Will always be remembered as the man who deflected Brehmes free kick over Peter Shilton in the World Cup semi final of 1990 though.
