The BBC says: "Fifa president Sepp Blatter has given the strongest indication yet that the 2022 Qatar World Cup will be held in the summer, not the winter."

But Blatter told the BBC's Brian Alexander: "Who said first that we should play in winter? It was Franz Beckenbauer, second Michel Platini and the world footballers' union (Fifpro).

"I am not in favour of one or the other. What I did say, winter is not only January or February. I think for the time being the matter is on ice."

Is the World Cup going to be played on ice, sand or grass?

Qatar have the same seasons as us im afraid.

The only thing i can deduce from the above is that it isnt going to be in June/July and people shouldnt assume that a winter world cup is Jan/Feb so maybe he is planning it for another month?

Think Blatter wants or is trying to leave a legacy so we never forget him....should try and make all the games kick off 3am and if there's any country that has the letter Y in it your through the group stages automatically.

No they didnt, im currently working for one of the British based firms that is bidding to engineer/build the stadia and infrastructure for the Qatar world cup.

They initially said that with clever use of air pressure they can create an air bubble which will get pitch side temp down to about 32 degrees C

Ah fair play, if you ask me by what our engineers are drawing up and saying it isnt going to happen anyway and even if it does it will only be on the final venue stadium.

I've always thought the suggestion that the problem of the heat could be overcome by building air-conditioned stadiums to be a specious argument since players will spend most of their time training and preparing for a match. This is likely to be done on outdoor training pitches subject to the extreme heat.

FIFA as a whole is a complete farse and the World Cup in Qatar is bound to be a disaster. They conned us with our 2018 bid by saying our presentation (involving the Prime Minister, our future King and the greatest footballer ever to play for England) was 'remarkable'. A day after the results for 2018 and 2022, Mr. Blatter also said they were looking to take the World Cup to new venues. In that case we wouldn't have bothered! He's also been made to look a fool by saying FIFA expected the World Cup to be in Winter, but as it turns out, January and February aren't the only months in Winter
