I only count about 9 of those listed that we couldn't make a profit on. Still, that's a lot of money.
Naughton £6m, Walker £4m? They were a combined transfer right? Both from Sheff Utd at same time? Was Naughton really considered the better of the 2?
They came as a job lot for £10m with Naughton generally considered to be the more expensive of the two at the time... BBC: Spurs capture Naughton and Walker
I'm pretty sure we re-signed Defoe for £9m plus writing off £6m that Pompey owed us for the transfers of Defoe, Kaboul, Pedro Mendes, Sean Davis and Noe Pamarot.
What Does £126,900,000 Get You These Days? Abramovich spends twice that just on a yacht! I saw today on SSN a bit of trivia, that the total cost of Chelsea's players out on loan just for last season (some didn't set foot in SB at all) amounted to the equivalent that Wigan spent on there 1st team...over the last SIX years!
Yep glad he's gone, Although he did have his moments, scoring 4 against Liverpool and the winner against Barca. Skillful player, his problem was that he was just a lazy little ****. Bentley though was just ****
It would be interesting to see these numbers for the top 4 and Liverpool. I'm guessing that they would show each of the other five having spent more on their current squad. I also think that our squad would have a much higher resale value than the amounts we paid whereas this is less likely to be true for the others. If so, our heavily criticised transfer policy seems to be working much better than any of our competitors!
On the buy low/sell high measure, there's no question Levy and Spurs have played the game better than the other top five clubs lately. While I'm obviously against doing this, selling Bale for 60-80 million would represent a big win at that game. It'll be interesting to see how Holtby and Gylfi pan out. I think they could both be worth a lot in a couple of years, but only if we figure out how to play them regularly. Right now the natural position for both is occupied by Bale.
