Hi not posted for a while but have been reading posts on here and they all seem to be indicating that we won't get promoted but don't need to make signings i am very confused by the logic of this. IMO. i think the signing of Cork is a brilliant one but for me it should have been done as soon as he was back from international duty and we should of signed at least 3 player prior to going to switzerland, and then a couple more when the squad returns. I think the club at the moment is an attractive propistion for alot of players and i would hate us to come to jan and be in the bottom half of the league signing a lower standerd of player cause we are no longer in a srong position. IMO we have missed the boat big time and i know making wholesale changes may not result in promotion but everyone here seems to fancy Leicester for the title.
i disagree, i think we only need a maximum of two new players. remember signing too many players can disrupt the changing room. team spirit is key in this league so it is a risk of signing 5 or so players. pkus the fact it seems a bit unnecessary, i feel mist of our team will be abke to make the step up
I just don't think we need too many signings. And those we do need will be targeted very specifically and will therefore happen when they can happen. An earlier post on strength in depth kind of summed that up for me. More importantly, when are you going to give us some more Dunlop winners!?
I don't see where we need new players - Our midfield is quality now, Upfront we may need a pacy striker to play off Lambert and at the back we have young Martin coming through if Jaidi is struggling. We don't need full backs, we have 4 decent full backs at this level - Although Butterfield does lack pace and is getting on a bit. I wouldn't want us to splash the cash liek Leicester - If they fail to get promoted this year or their owner pulls out they are stuffed. We need to learn from our previous mistakes not make the same ones again.
you all say 2 more signings, but with that none of you are confident of promotion imo this season is not about consolidation we need to push on from where we left off yeah i agree we have alot of good players but not a squad fit for premier league, adjustments need to be made so if we sign 4,5 or 6 quality plaers now it will increase are chances of promotion plus it will mean less upset next season
We have team spirit and momentum, something Leicester don't have. The big players atm want to got to the likes of Forest and Leicester, so we should try and get a top half finish this season and sign big players next season or in January. I think some players are a bit skeptical of coming here as we have just got promoted but we have a decent squad anyway which is better than a lot of Championship sides imo.
Saints aren't building that sort of team though, over the last few years we have had to start again and re build a new look team. This way we have great team spirit and a squad that have gelled well together a know each other well too. Then you got Leicester with a team who are going to be strangers to each other. We need to build on the last few years and not start again with a whole lot of new arrivals
No way more than 2 signings. It will upset the spirit and the balance. I would be dissapointed to see any of our top 11-14 players being forced out too :S
Its good to hear that technically everbody agree's on a new cb and st yet no one has said they are certain this will be good enough to guarentee a top 6 finish, so imo no one know what they want so no one has answered my question
We are being realistic. If we make 5/6 singings it could have a more negative end of season result than keeping our current squad. I for one love the 22 players we have available plus the youngsters. 1 max 2 would not be a problem, but any more is silly at 1st attempt! Our squad, on paper i feel would be good enough for a top half finish and if we are around or in playoffs ill be buzzing! Lets stay real here.... we are not Leicester or Man City. Why should we be. Soon the new rules also come in.... then these teams will be struggling as income will not be enough to cover exp and thus new players nigh impossible :S
I'll try and answer your point Saintkitch... I think we have on paper a squad capable of challenging for promotion, and listening to what the players have said on the Player etc. they are certainly up for it. The big question, which seems to have been settled, was whether AOC stayed or not, and things are looking good on that front, especially with him apparently on good form in the Swiss game the other night. The other thing is that when interviewed after signing Jack Cork, Nigel Adkins had a big grin on his face when asked what other signings we could expect. So there WILL be someone else signed, either a CB (most likely) or a striker, or (unlikely) both.
Nashysfc your tag is about getting promoted either its outdated or your wanting back to back promotions. yet in your post your saying keep it real mid table maybe scrape into the playoffs with our current squad, so why if we are good enough to scrape into the playoffs do you not want us to make certain of this, it wouldn't have to be major money or wholesale changes just to make the playoffs.
Not at all. We can all dream. My tag is a modified saying from the film cool runnings. Bit of a joke tbh. Id LOVE promotion this season blimey who wouldnt..... what i am trying to say mate is i personally feel -- 1- the squad is good ebnough to go for promotion 2- my expectations is top half 3- id be very happy to be there or there abouts 4- too many singings will NOT necessarilly me we will secure promotion and MAY have a negative impact and unsettle perhaps. You cannot buy promotion there is more to it. I value your opinion i just dont think we need that many players. Look at my thread about strength in depth. We have 2 pretty decent starting 11s imo. 2 at max as i mentioned
Totally agree, we need a forward and a big centre half for cover as there are a lot of games to be played
my point is that we all agree our squad is good. ok say we over achieve and get promotetd with our current squad, what then? cause as good as our squad is it a long way short of a mid table premier league team, so it will have to be whole sale changes and hope they gel bloody quick or it will be like the old days in the top flight needing to win 8 out of 10 games to stay up, which by the way looking back on was bloody exciting.
Suppose one step at a time. There are a select few i feel would be ok in the prem, fonte, oxo, lallana, cork and a few others. Its taking one step at a time. Its unrealistic to expect a premier league quality squad in a newly promoted league one team. It just doesnt happen im affraid. Wish it would but it doesnt. Even leicester who are shedding millions are recruiting from this level with limited experince higher up There is always January to bolster a push if we arent quite making it COYRs!!!!!!!!
