Interesting threads going on about tags and rep over the last couple of days, and lots of criticism about mods and their power on the site. I moderate the Chelsea board along with Ginge, and that's it. I can't ban people, I couldn't see who posted which tag or bit of rep, but if things descend into tit for tat crap then we have the abiltity to close threads, or delete posts that are not suitable. I go onto other premier league boards and engage with threads posted, but get criticised for doing so in such a way because I AM A MOD...today I got rebuked for calling Peter Crouch a lanky streak of urine and a penis in the same post, and in exactly those terms...harsh stuff I'm sure you'll agree? I was called into order by two posters for being a mod and therefore i should behave like a governor of state. I am not, but I took onboard what they said and will look out in future when on that board. I marshall my board, I have banter with those that come on it, and try to be even handed with what goes on, whilst also trying to have fun and banter mixed with debate on others. We don't get paid, and we all have other jobs...GC is entirely modded by Syd and is without doubt the hardest job on here...he gets dozens of PM's a day about next to nothing and goes about it in his own way, which is actually very nicely. On 606 you could appeal to Jez and his collection of idiots to no avail, and everyone moaned...here on NOT606, you can comment, debate & create FREELY, and yet it's still not good enough for some. The tags got out of hand by diving into blatant racism, and new members were getting some pretty atrocious messages via rep, hence why they are being reviewed. This site is moving along at a hell of a rate and Mick is doing his utmost to control what is fast becoming a monster of a forum...we will all have to adapt to certain changes but isn't it worth it? We are visible, you can communicate with us, so do it or don't, that's your choice after all but don't just moan, the world changes every day
tbh i think syd is a nice bloke, as much as you can judge a person on a internet forum. I say this as i have mostly used GC as footie season was off The problem for me is that it times it seems there is no consistency on here at all But i wonder if that is other users rather than the mods? I mean complaining, whining biatches. I use this as a bit of a laff/pass the time. I engage in conversations I want to and avoid others I act differently towards different people, simply as i have gotten to know there MO I have had threads removed/closed and i wonder if its as a result of people who can give it but cannot take it? so go complaining. I have never complained about a poster, i just ignore or abuse/argue back I am assuming the mods dont follow every single thread or take up every single complaint, as it would be too time consuming If it wasnt too time consuming i would recommend that when a complaint comes in, they look at who it is and that persons MO, then if it is genuine ban the offender but if it is, as i suspect, someone 'crying to mummy' because they cant take what they give then they should be named and every one can give them abuse without them able to respond mostly i think kudos to the mods, i wouldnt want the job PS who gave ST the job* *joke
On gc we want them to **** off and leave us alone. The way it used to be. Not a slight on syd though he seems like a good guy.
I would agree most Mods do a good job, but ST doesn't and that is nothing to do with the fact I can't stand him. He often reveals personal details, makes stuff up about what he can see, threatens you with your IP number not behaviour for a Mod at all and just today slagged off the site and Syd, clearly shouldn't be a mod.
But it's only Syd that moderates it, I can't touch GC and honestly wouldn't want to...it's thankless and ****ing difficult... I also enjoy posting on here and moreso reading the stuff that gets posted... It can't feasibly be the way it used to be as there were only so many of you, and it was more contained
i agree as a mod it wasnt the wisest decision however i think ST is ok he changes his views like the weather and gets ripped a new one on a regular basis but as i come on here to have a laff, it is funny my threads/comments that got deleted so far were aimed at him so i see him as one of those 'mummies boys' I could be wrong though
Syd as a person seems decent enough. But some of his decisions of late have been questionable. If gc is to have a mod it should be someone who uses the board regularly. I nominate venom.
Top article, SW6. Have some rep. Your point about moderators being seen to set an example is well taken. It's a fine balance to try and keep. We all still want to be able to use the site for the same reasons that everyone else does, I'm sure. When I'm on the sports boards I do try to avoid doing anything that might upset people on their own boards, but I see GC as fair game, frankly. If people act like a twat to me on here, then they can expect to be treated like on in return. Syd does a great job and he's given far too much of a hard time. People want to be able to say whatever they want on here, but some of it just isn't legal, as I understand it.
I think it is evident that both Syd and I want to do as little work as possible. I really really hate people moaning and bitching to me all the time about this person or that person. It's the problem with the internet, everyone hides behind their cloak of invisibility and calls each other ****s. I then get the bitching about it. So I removed Tags and Reputation so people would stop bitching about anonymous insults being hurled at them. I did this for an easy life, because I hate interfering in other people's situations. So what do I want from mods? To do as little moderating as possible, but sometimes a few of you ****s make this difficult to achieve.

mick can you not ban the shoites who complain instead? i mean seriously, I cant stand people who act all 'bad' but go running to you guys when they get torn a new one as a result as i said i wouldnt want to be a mod, but if i was i would have a bit of an idea of who was what, and if certain people complained i wouldnt even read the complaint, just ban them for being a prick for complaining
Mic and Syd are like the police. They mean well, and most of the time do their job very well. Their only failing is they allow their hands to be tied by political correctness and fear of the perception of the general public. But again like the police, they do a thankless job.
