We can completely rule out us signing a top midfielder or any midfielder for that matter. This is 100% clear and if anyone believes otherwise you are simply kidding yourself. Good to dream but also good to be realistic. Ferguson without a doubt believes our central midfield is good enough and he believes the players he has are good enough. So who are we to disagree? I personally believe we need some changes in that area but Ferguson knows more than me. The central midfiedlers in the team will be: Giggs Carrick Anderson Fletcher Cleverly maybe Park I believe Carrick and Anderson is our best pairing and the most balanced. One sits back and one attacks and brings the ball forward. This could be the year Anderson proves he is good enough to start most games. I really do hope he shows that he is good enough.
I also agree with Ando/Carrick. There's no point in persisting with Giggs in there. We have someone (Ando) who could well make the position his own for the next half a dozen years. I see little reason for continuing to play a 37 year old winger in there for two reasons. First, it could hamper Ando's progression, and two, he's 37 FFS. When you consider we had the likes of Scholes and Veron (you can say he was a flop but technically he was superb) to now be relying on a 37 year old who's spent most of his career on the wing is depressing. I wouldn't feel so bad about the situation if Fergie said this was the year when Ando will be given a consistent first team spot to see how he steps up, but I can see the usual pattern. He'll play a couple of quality games where he controls the midfield, then he'll be on the bench for the next couple of weeks. Having said all that though, our midfield is even worse this season than it was last season. And that's after another battering from Barca. Fergie seems to have this obsession at the minute for strengthen everywhere bar where we really need it. Rant over.
I don't know the age of some posters here but this concern over CM and SAF's so called failure to address it, reminds me a little of the Utd fans reaction many years ago when he sold Hughes, Ince, and Kanchelskis and failed to replace them with big money signings. What did he do? Brought in Scholes, Butt, Neville (Phil and Gary), and Beckham. I'm not saying Pogba and Morrison are ready yet (they are about 2 years younger than those lads) but don't under estimate SAF.
"We can completely rule out us signing a top midfielder or any midfielder for that matter." That`s absolute Bollocks, mere speculation on your part and I`m sure enough to wager a bet that you are wrong. At present our best 2 in CM are Anderson and Carrick IMO.
I can bet you I am right. I am in no way saying we don't want to sign a top midfielder. I am saying there are too many obstacles in our way and we must understand that. Ferguson wants to get a marque player to replace scholes, not any old youngster. I think Ferguson has made this clear enough. Why buy a 21-22 year old when we have Pogba et al? Sneidjer signing can't and won't happen. We have given up on him now and Ferguson is happy with this midfield. As long as Anderson is 1st choice and Pogba gets a few games I will be happy. But if Giggs starts a lot of games or even Fletcher ahead of Anderson, it will be depressing. I believe Carrick is much better than he was in early last season and Anderson showed promise last season and they deserve their chance together.
Weren't you pretty sure a few months ago that we wouldn't make any big moves this summer? £50m+ later, why should anyone believe your claims now?
Jip Jaap Stam Completely wrong so may I say You can even ask Merry about this. I have always been one to say that Ferguson had money and the Glazers were making it available. I got shot down by some fans for saying we had money but I made it clear that we did and I always knew we would sign players this summer and spend.
Nolhman in your last guise as LuisNani17 you did say we wouldn't sign ANYONE then changed your tune to say we would only sign young unknown players. You then when you became Valencia25 started saying we may sign a goalkeepers and 2 more players. That is what pisses people off about you, how you constantly change your opinions to wind others up.
Here is my proof. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/47383-We-are-signing-players!!!!-Finally http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/46482-Sir-Alex-Ferguson-planning-on-Improving-Utd http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/47325-Finances-realistic-transfers http://www.not606.com/showthread.ph...ery-supportive-of-our-desires-to-improve-quot To be honest where do you guys make this rubbish up? Seriously I knew we would sign players just not anyone major. We have signed players and we will not sign anyone major. So so far I have been right. Conc you are wrong.
I agree that we shouldnt sign someone who will impede our youngsters long term progress.Thats why we will sign the player we need for now ie someone at their peak, De Rossi, Sniejder, Sweinstieger etc I too hope that Pogba and Morrisson get to play a fair amount of games this season but at 18 they may not be ready to cope with the pressure of expectation, remember Beckham and Scholes were a couple of years older before they got their chance.
Here is just some of the nonsense you have spouted as LuisNani17: So are you claiming the likes of Dea Gea, Jones and Young are NOT major signings?
None of those players are world class, therefore not major signings. A major signing is someone who is a top class player who is world class. De Gea? How many seasons has he had at the top? He is 20 and is not world class or a major top goal keeper (yet) but he has enormous potential. Like I said before we will buy potential and we have with De Gea and Jones. Even Ferguson has stated that De Gea is not certain of a starting place. Young is not a top player either. So no, we have not signed anyone major. Maybe it is time to face the reality. We are not going to compete for the best of the bunch with the likes of Barca, Real and City and Chelsea as our competition. However, Ferguson is a genius and will sign the players who can improve us for good fees and young potentials and under him we will always compete. Believe me, I want us to sign a marque player to give us a bit of a buz and to improve our midfield but our squad is good enough to win the league again. I don't think it is wise to look at Barca when buying players. The most we can play them in is 2 games, so they should not be in our focus. If we are trying to match them, we are going to end up a bit red cheeked and upset. Forget about them as they are too good to match. They have some of the greatest players in their squad. Messi may even be the best ever in a few seasons. So how do you match them? They will soon have Sanchez and Fabregas as well. So forget about them. Their era will pass but they are by far the best team in the world. However, we are trying to retain our place as the best in England and one of the best in Europe. This is the aim. We can still win in Europe as Barca won't win every time and with a bit of luck, you never know. Football is a funny old game.
You guys know your own players better than me I'm sure but I think carrick and anderson just aren't top quality. Fletcher seems a very capable defensive midfielder, can't believe he's being over looked. I think him with giggs are your best 2 but giggs can't play every game.
So what, in your opinion, was the last major signing we made? The last player we signed who was recognised as being world class when we signed him?
