Lazio given suspended ban over Spurs chants
Lazio have been handed a suspended one-game stadium ban by UEFA following anti-semitic chanting by home fans in a Europa League game against Tottenham Hotspur in November, Italian media reported.

UEFA was not available for comment but Lazio President Claudio Lotito told Italian radio the suspended ban, which will be enforced if a similar incident takes place, was a warning to his club's fans.

"For the fault of a few people, we all must pay the penalty. But now there is no more joking," he said.

Tottenham have a large contingent of Jewish fans. Lazio supporters, well-known for their right-wing views, also unfurled a "Free Palestine" banner at the game.

Ten Spurs fans were injured when they were attacked in a Rome bar the night before the match.

UEFA has been accused of being too soft on racist incidents, with pundits pointing out that Denmark's Nicklas Bendtner was handed a bigger fine for displaying an advertising logo on his underpants at Euro 2012 than national federations have received for instances of racism.

Very weak and soft punishment from UEFA. The Lazio president is a dick if he thinks it was all a bit of 'joking'.

There are some things that clubs just cannot stop fans from doing and racist chants and imitations of certain animals are two of them. The club cannot stop fighting when it happens 3 kilometers from the ground etc. UEFA has to be seen to be doing something about it and short of barring everybody from watching the matches it's difficult to see a remedy for it.
There is always going to be racism whatever anybody does to try and prevent it. I applaud UEFA's efforts but punishments won't change people's prejudices etc. You can go to Scotland and be called an "English Bastard" yet I haven't heard of any punishments handed out to the Scotch clubs for that so racism exists everywhere and always will. I don't let myself get upset by it because I'm guilty off provoking the Welsh with no joking so I'm in a way just as bad. I shouldn't do it but it's "fun" to provoke others. I have never gone to a football match and started violence or racist chants,I don't agree with it and well done UEFA for at least trying to do something about it.

Platini runs a a great ship doesn't he, lets see what his reign has brought us, rubbishly revised competitions, twisting of rules to prevent English teams getting in, soft and inept handling of racial incidents, as this is not the first. Yes, thank you Michel, you useless lilly livered French twat. I said the moment he was appointed England would suffer at every opportunity he got.

Whilst I can't disagree that Platini is a devious, thoroughly untrustworthy twat, he is first and foremost a political animal. He already has the presidency of UEFA, and probably has his sights set higher still.
He is always going to do what is to his political advantage.

I know UAFA or the club cant be held responsible for what happens away from the game but the amount of violence and hate that attaches itself to this club (remember this is not the first time) has to be taken into consideration surely

UEFA are useless. Racism in the first game, a litany of offences in the 2nd and a non-punishment for both.
Still no official announcement and no comment on whether we'll face any punishment, either.

The decision to have the Euros played all over the shop is crap, too.

The suspended ban is absolutely right and what I've always wanted but it should have already been given for the first instance of racist chanting at White Hart Lane. The November game's punishment should have been to activate the suspended ban. I hope the difference in treatment between the two punishments, one being a pathetic fine and the other being a suspended meaningful punishment, is due to UEFA sorting themselves out. I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that after the Serbia-England punishement was handed out that they realised the part of UEFA in charge of handing out the punishment for these racist incidences have been badly underplaying the problem and enabling it to continue and even grow.

The FA still need to sort out punishing West Ham too. West Ham banning 1 fan for being caught on camera doing the Nazi salute isn't enough, the club should have been properly dealt with for the anti-semitic chants that rang out in the stadium and were clearly audible.
