I am going to be honest, I watched the " gasheads" playoff final and I thought it was a most enjoyable game of football from an entertainment aspect. The quality of play was very poor compared to our standard but that would be like comparing us with Chelsea there is none, the effort was there, skill factor very poor, fitness level good, I was impressed with Chris Lines, the rest would not get in our reserves, their goalie should have been sent off, their striker is an outright conman and cheat, the guy that scored the goal did have some class about him and I liked him but his head was to far up his own ass. If Grimsby's strikers had been more aware they could have won that game, there is no doubt that the "gas's" biggest asset is their fans but boy that team is going to struggle in league football, I hope the blue few are not to blind to that and I thought their manager was like a schoolboy. Critical yes I am, glad they won yes I am, would I watch them, no thank you but congratulations to them and I hope the team are as good as their fans..
I agree Wiz, Grimsby could have had a bigger effect on the game with better players, their right winger saw a lot of the ball but didn't beat the Sag left back once. Their striker John Lewis should be working at his namesakes store not playing football he was woefully off the pace. still I suppose thats the standard..
One of Grimsby's players was a barber.... pretty much says everything about the league rovers were playing in. I thought Rovers were poor, as were Grimsby and the game could have gone on for another 10 hours without there being another goal. As for them struggling next year..... I'm not so sure. Remember momentum and confidence plays a big part and they will have that. I think they'll finish around the play offs. League 2 looks quite strong next year and no offence to rovers they'll be one of the mediocre teams next years. The likes of Notts C, Orient, Yeovil and Crawley will all be up there no doubt, then chuck in Luton, Pompey, Plymouth and Stevenage and it makes for a hard league.
Didn't see it as I don't have BT Sport or whatever non Sky channel it was on. I wouldn't have watched it even if I had the channel TBH. It was so obvious the jammy gits would fluke their way back into the league and I'd probably have spewed had I seen it.
I thought it was a poor game, fell asleep watching it as it wasn't at all entertaining, like the atmosphere all I heard was Grimsby fans and nothing from Rovers apart from one song after 30 minutes when they scored.
Use to watch Clevedon Town quite a bit a few years back. I'm not even joking when I say the standard of quality is seriously no different. I watched the league two p/off semi final with Plymouth and Wycombe and the quality was a million miles better than the conference p/off.
As soon as the gas goalkeeper was allowed to stay on the pitch the momentum was with them, 9 out of 10 referees would have sent him off but I'm pleased they are back in the football league, their fans deserve it, sadly Mr Higgs does not.
First half entertainment wise was ok but after half time neither team looked like scoring and I believe the better side on the day lost. The Ref also bottled both big decisions as both keepers should have gone but saying that Rovers finished second over 46 games so justice was done.
In my opinion, Grimsby should have been 3 up playing against 10 men within 30 mins.....from then on it was on the cards the gas would fluke a win....It was like watching football on the downs!!
The technical standard of players on show was of a level that should embarrass both clubs. Caveman football! I recently watched two academy sides in Donacastor and Southampton. Kids of twelve had a higher skill level, and played less % football.
