I was in Rennes two weeks back for the Celtic game, my first time in France. The French people I met along my travels were surprisingly very nice and not as ignorant as I had been made to believe. Maybe it's small minded little British islanders who are the ignorant ****s.
Maybe it's the big city mentality. I remember once asking some **** for directions on the tube in London, he looked at me as if I had a cock in the middle of my head.
Dont think iv met a rude arrogant frenchman yet, and I know many. Including some exceedingly rich ones who are some of the nicest people you could meet
That was sort of my point, people always say, "without generalising" before doing exactly what they said they wouldn't!
A french couple hid my granda from the SS, their a good bunch in my book. The English are ****s though.
I have to say I have met so many nice people in France. My son ran an all night outside disco once after a show jumping event and there were youngsters there, pissed as newts, until 7.30am But none were looking for trouble and when I told them to move away from the amplifiers they did so. I would have probably been threatened if I did that in UK. My daughter had her baby in France and she was given presents from the hospital, chemist and bank. And another time when I went into a chemist once to get some stuff on my way to visit my daughter in hospital (injured), as soon as I mentioned it the lady was running round gathering some goodies for me to take. I think if you go to the bigger towns/cities it gets a bit more like the UK but generally (where I am) it's about 30 years behind UK. I expect there are plenty of places in the UK that are just as friendly, if not more. So generalising (as I have a bit here) is meaningless. Wherever you go there will be nice people and not nice people, people that rip you off and people who won't, regardless of country. When I was a young lad I worked part time on the taxis in the evenings and I used to drive a lot of Americans to their base. They all used to say how much nicer it was in UK because it wasn't such a rat race as in USA. I think it's true to say that you could compare France to the UK in the same way now. Maybe I'm just lucky where I live but there is no rat race, the pace is much more relaxed, no road rage, no parking problems or traffic jams. There again there must be places in the UK like that. There I go again, generalising and then back tracking.
While I myself was generalising about the Parisians it's the only place in France I've been. I love the city, been three times, but I found many of the locals to be obnoxious.
Quite possibly. I've heard that about Parisians. The only ones I've met have moved out of Paris or on holiday and they have been nice. Maybe it's just the stress of big cities.
