These are some of their comments regarding our supposed interest in Jarvis. His departure may be inevitable, but surely not to Southampton and surely for the paltry sum of £4 mil ? It's insulting to even hint that he is worth the same as the useless roger johnson... More like £10 mil and to Everton if he wants to following in Jo Lescotts very succesful footsteps ! AdMant don't usually agree with admant - but he is right, if we let Jarvo go for £4million then the club need their heads looking at, I know it is more or less immpossible to keep players when you go down, but our players owe the club and fans big time + they had a lot to say about how much they wanted to play for the club - well lads prove it! by helping us get back up, give it a season and if we don't go back up then you can have your transfer - seems fair to me. johnwolf I fully agree AdMant. Only - this thought has just occurred to me: chances are not remote that the Saints go straight back down AND Wolves straight up again. But the loyalty will have gone, and I would not be over-joyed at his return. A case of 'a glass once broken' for me. lovesW great post JohnWolf, shame it doesnt work like that eh. I hate seeing favoured players moving on and becoming part of another team especially "lesser clubs" like southampton (waiting for the tool letissisgod to reply to that one) I could take a move to everton etc albeit with great sadness gregory house Excellent comment, JohnWolf. Rounds up the general feeling among the fans, I think. I suggest you e-mail that to Jez to forward to the players. Honest. lovesW If MJ went to Southampton, it would be for money reasons, not footballing. Southampton will come back down next season. They are neither a Norwich or a Swansea. If Everton came in for him then to be honest he would be silly not to accept. I'd like to keep all our better players but money is a great motivator. Nice to see that the Club are making very positive moves over the last few days. We all make mistakes.....how we deal with them is a sign of the persons character. SM has really pulled the rabbit out of the hat especially announcing that we are after a DoF and an assistant manager. Wiggen is the obvious for Assistant. Be interesting to see who the 3 they are lining up for the DoF role are. I suspect Graham Taylor, Wilkins will be in that list. Makes sense to push JM into the background. He is brilliant at finance....not so good at footballing stuff so this can only be a positive move. Rustmonkey This reflects the arrogance of many fans which we will be witnessing in the Premier League. In the Championship and League 1 I got the feeling that the fans were generally interested in football in it's widest sense and were not as partizan as the PL fans who generally are focused solely on the PL and their club in particular. These guys have obviously seen Norwich and Swansea and have formed an opinion that we aren't as good as them. It is for us to now prove them wrong as they watch us on MotD while they wait for the FLshow. Well we will just have to see how good Wolves are when having lost the heart of their team they have to battle against some very good championship sides this coming season.
I'm sure they're hurting, so I simply can't take offence. I felt the same way when we lost players like Kevin Phillips and Kenwyne Jones to "lesser" clubs, never mind losing Shearer and Flowers to Blackburn when we were still in the top flight. How would you feel if the booty was on the other foot and there was speculation linking Adam Lallana to a newly promoted Wolves?
A lot of people will see us as relegation certs. This should hopefully play into our hands with teams underestimating us, similar to the start of this (last) season
Lets not forget it wasnt so long ago that when we went down from the champ in a serious time of need, Wolves came in and got Surman for next to nothing. Some of their fans need to take a reality check!
Agreed. We would be saying exactly what they have and probably did when we got relegated. No-one outside Southampton thinks of us as a big club in the top 10 sense. We will be installed as short price favourites to go straight down. That may change a bit if we splash some cash but we need to prove ourselves by results.
That rustmonkey comment really pisses me off. He (or she) knows **** all about us and we should be capable of holding our own in the PL. Having said that, I suppose he or she is directing his anger at the Wolves owner elsewhere
Rust monkeys comment just tells me this person knows very little about football....why would we be certs to go back down...did not all 3 teams promoted the season before stay up?....and Wolves are IMO not coming back up anytime soon...
Unfortunately to many supporters Saints are a small club. While in the 2000's we did pretty well in the Premier league, having spent the last seven years away i think it's inevitable we'll be seen as relegation candidates. Which may be true, but the belief and management us supporters see is not always apparent to an outsider, so as written above 'underestimate us at your peril!'. Of course we're in the Premier and Wolves aren't, so by default they're the 'lesser' club, but what Wolves fan wants to forget their glory years 50 years ago?
Agree with this he is their lallana they love him as much as we do him, I'd react the exact same way if I was them and still bitter from relegation. However I think i'd be more polite about the respective status of each club, considering we're now higher than them...
People have been underestimating saints for the last 3 seasons. When I told people we had players in League One that were Premier League quality I got laughed at. Who the f*** is laughing now? We are Southampton, we're premier league, and we're here to stay. The wolves fans, and everyone else will see soon enough.
OMG, if only we were to have a look at all the shooting-from-the-hip opinion which some have exhibited on here in response to some empty rumour about Wenger looking at one of our youth players! They have just been relegated and now are dreading the sale of their star players for less than they think they are worth. I say, cut em a bit of slack. We do remember how that felt, right? As for being unaware of how we play, how many of us can honestly say we paid much attention to League 2 when we were in League 1?
10 mil for jarvis......piss off, he's good and all but come on. I hate wolves with a passion for some unknown reason, but jarvis is a class player who deserves to be in the PL, with us preferbly
We must also remember a lot of younger fans only watch the Premier League and we have been absent for seven years now, so we are an unknown quantity to them; the prior 27 years means nothing. Like ManMountainJaidi states being underdogs has been good for Saints and in this division we are likely to be that.
Being a "lesser" club has little to do with division. For me, it includes the fanbase from the last 20-30 years but mostly a range of factors that decides the size of a club and Southampton are a bigger club than Wolves. The "biggest" clubs in England are Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal. I consider Newcastle, Spurs, West Ham, Leeds and Forest to all be "bigger" clubs than Chelsea. And Southampton, Coventry and Sheffield Wednesday to all be "bigger" clubs than Wolves.
