I have lived out of the country for around 14 years now and as much as the adventure has been amazing in the US, Abu Dhabi and now in South Africa, I really do miss things in the UK. I know there are a few on here who either live overseas or have done in the past..So, what is it that you miss the most Apart from Family (which is obvious) I really miss : Sunday Dinners English Supermarkets NHS Pubs Durham County Cricket Club Ramside Golf Club But most of all Not being able to get the SOL every home game

Friday night Chavs on the rampage Charver families in Asda The glorious North East Weather The price of a pint Weak beer The lack of bars outside of the center The cost of living The demise of high street shops Betting shops Second hand shops Cash converters Charity shops We buy your Gold We cash your cheques Racisit brexit voters Workmans club experts on the financial well being of the country who are long term able bodied but long term unempleyed not realising they are part of the problem. The welfare state should be a safety net, not a way of life.
Back in the UK now but I when living in the US the biggest thing I missed was the Christmas Day lunchtime pub visit with all the men of the family. Daft really, it was only ever for an hour, but really used to get me down that I wasn't there.
I’ve lived in Australia since November 2007. To be honest there’s not much I miss about the UK. I love my mam and dad, but we’re not close as a family. I don’t have any siblings so can’t miss them. Any friends Mrs K and I made in the UK have gone by the wayside other than one couple who we’ve stayed in contact with. It helps that I left home and the north east in 1984 when I joined the army and since then I’ve never returned to live. When I left the army I wanted to move back to the north east, but Mrs K didn’t so we settled on Northampton when I applied for the cops. As for the games, other than the late 1980s and early 1990s when I went as regularly as my army life allowed I’ve never really been a big match goer. Likewise after the games I would tend to go home and then go out locally rather than around the town. Although for a while I frequented The Brunswick in South Shields, but not because I wanted to….. my mate was seeing one of the barmaids there. I thought the chance of living over here had passed me by, even being a qualified mechanic from my army days, but the opportunity came when the police here wanted to recruit direct from the UK, so I jumped at the chance having never even visited Australia. In short, Mrs K and me have got a great life out here and to be honest I’ve got no intention of wanting to move back, although as the saying goes, never say never. I'm still proud of where I come from though, both England and Sunderland, but I suppose I’ve always had that travel bug.

Same here the French version has never been bacon in its life. We had an English shop in both our nearside towns, went for a look but never bothered buying anything, I didn't really hanker after anything was happy to try the local cuisine...except bacon of course.
American bacon is basically streaky bacon, which I never bought in UK. Buy it occasionally here, it’s ok but not the same. Lived in France for a couple of years too, not good.
In France now since 97. Most of my life here. I don't miss much, except for family and friends. Quality of life is better here for and my family. Note, I live in France and work in Switzerland so I'm in a pretty exceptional situation But Decent pubs Fish n chips on the beach I don't miss the NHS. System here is just as good if not better in France. In Switzerland, where I work, it's excellent (though different, as it's mandatory health insurance for everyone so can cost in some situations) I don't miss the weather
I know what you mean about the weather. I lived in Virginia Beach and the humidity during those months was horrific.. I found that worse than the summer heat in Abu Dhabi where its gets up to 52 degrees,,, But you live in a lovely part of the world.
The bacon here is the same as English/Danish bacon, we have Lidl who sells it. The only foods I can't replicate or buy is mushy peas, pease pudding and stuffing. (I have made pease pudding, but it's a nightmare) Stuffing, to much work, mushy peas, I can't buy marrowfat peas here. Thanks to Als Kitchen, the Skool of Wok, living in Italy, all my fast food desires are met.
Mine was always crisps, love a good crisp ohhh and salad creme. When I was in the army as a 17 year old living in Germany my mam used to send me over care packages once a month with crisps and chocolate and the footy echo
I've been in South Africa for a few months now and the thing that has surprised me the most is the lack of choice when it comes to food shopping. Silly things like Heinz and Kellogg's products, proper mint sauce, just don't exist. The supermarkets are crap by UK standards, that said, what is here is so cheap. The meat in SA is phenomenal. Last week I found out about a company in Johannesburg who specialise in UK food. I'm spending a fortune with this outfit now.
Ive been in nz since 2017. Obviously you miss family but I think i only miss a few things. A decent Chinese takeaway, getting to the games and a sneaky Gregg's haha.
