Bullseye. That's the one. When I get chance I'll see if I can find a thread of his programme notes. (I won't be upset if someone else finds it first)
You are quite right Sutton. Funny all the same. I can't find the particular thing I was looking for, but for those that haven't com across Murph, here's some examples from This link "It is also a dangerous feeling to consider that where we are in the League is of acceptable standard, because standard is relevant to the standards we have set, which thereby may well indicate that we have not aspired to the standard which we set ourselves." "Of the keys on the ring at the moment, we should be selecting more correctly to unlock opposing mechanisms. However, there is not a lock that cannot be unlocked, so we shall continue to endeavour to unlock the lock, but in doing so we must not get locked out." "I suppose that while accepting the pats on the back, we have to accept the hoots. However discombobulating we have been made to appear, we shall genuinely endeavour to discoidulate the cleavage." (Spookily prophetic as it's about Stockport!) "...Reminiscent of the eerie old haunted house that had been empty for years and was begging for life. No different to the dodo. How joyful for them not to have acrimoniated in the non-league. How delightful for them to be making a success of defeating extinction. Let us hope we are all able to be pulmonic!" On our last promotion: "You, me, we all of us have been forced to breakfast on travesty, lunch on objection and insult, dine on inflicted pressure. High tea we daren't sit still long enough to take and by supper we were still expected to have been victorious."
I last saw him three or four years ago at Stansted Airport waiting to go through Security - he had an old City top on and looked a shadow of his former self..
I dont want to do the bloke a disservice but Im pretty sure he was kept around purely for morale / comedy value. He was hilarious and the players loved him but they laughed at him rather than with him.
Think that's a bit harsh on Col, he had years of man management experience and a massive portfolio of foreign players that where up and coming, nothing he didn't know about any league around the world I have huge respect for the man
I loved his stories about Malaysia. You'd start off asking about football and within minutes he'd turned it around to talking about the 'local services'.....
Some triv when Murphy and Dario Gardi were the management team at Derby the fans called them : Starsky and Hutch
