    A bear walks two miles south and then two miles west. He then decides to walk two miles north and ends up back where he started.

    What colour was the bear?

    Polar bears aren't white, they just reflect the snow.

    Not strictly true as they still appear white where there is no snow!

    Also depends on diet. Could be green or yellow. I guess we'll never know the answer :(

    Also, could be a normal bear that escaped from a zoo in the North Pole. Or in a reverse situation to the polar bear in Lost that through some loophole in time and space ended up in the North African desert.

    Could be a Koala with a duff sat nav? I know a Koala isn't a bear, it's a marsupial if I am being silly, well you started it.

    Technically their fur is transparent, not white, but it appears white like other transparent things such as, um, snow.

    Apparently polar bear hair is transparent and hollow and reflects all light, therefore appearing white. As Swindon saint said, bears in captivity have turned green because of algae in the hollow hairs from their swimming pool. The wonders of google.

    <geek hat on>

    There are two possible answers to this on Earth, with a bit of imagination as to where a bear might be. The obvious one is a polar bear at the North Pole, but supposing there were a bear near the South Pole, the bear could walk two miles south to the point at which one circumnavigation of the South Pole is two miles.
