New to this caper so bear with me. Does anyone know anything that might give me just a crumb of confidence that Nicky Maynard might sign an extension to his contract? Even if it's just to know he can't walk away for nothing in year.......or is it already clear that he won't be signing?

qpr will have him. not a wum but if he is stalling over a contract then get rid now and cash in while you can. get somebody in who wants to play for your club like you did with pitman.

The longer it goes on the less inclined I am to think he will sign...... I think we all knew he wasn't going to be a City lifer. Been a good player to watch and I hope to see a lot more him at least for the next season

Pitman's a good lad and will obviously get more starts (and goals I hope) if Maynard does go.......quite honestly though, and no disrespect intended, I don't think he's in Maynard's class

Here's a crumb of confidence for you Mag, when Nicky first signed for us he brought his Mum with him to the ground instead of an agent! Let's hope he's still as level headed these days and signs an extension, if only to add something to his re-sale value.

Welcome to the forum btw <ok>

Maynard said to others within the club he wants to be in the prem next season, the least he could was sign a contract with a get out clause.
Re pitman personally think he will be a big hit and fill maynards boots no problem.much better around the box than Maynard.however if he decided to stay happy days, but don't hold much hope on what i have been told.

I'd be surprised if he signs, a very pleasant one, but a surprise nevertheless.

Depends on how risky we want to play it next season, if the expectation is promotion then we'll want to keep Nicky because he'll almost certainly re sign if we go up. If the expectation is "a good season" then I think we'll let him go for around 4 mil. Steal at twice the price if you ask me though :p

I am glad to see we are not just slamming him on the transfer list and planning for life without him.

KM is doing everything right to give him the chance to stay, but if he wont sign we will need to move him on pretty quick. We dont want to see a £5m asset walk away for free, we dont want to see him walk away for £3m but we have to at least make our money back.

I wouldnt be upset by the idea of Stead and Pitman as our first choice front men!

For the first time in ever I'm actually quite optimistic on this one.

Last season he was phenomenal, but he didn't get much of a go this season due to injury, and I'd be surprised if he was a top target for any teams looking towards the Premier League. We hold him in high regard, but I think we're the only ones that do.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was on holiday right now mulling it over, and seeing as there's been no known contact over his availability I think this probably means that when he's back in Bristol he'll want to sign for us again. He was around to see what happened when Basso, a top player for us, wanted out without any potential suitors waiting for him. He'll probably end up at Yeovil if we don't offload Henderson; a pretty bad drop considering that he would have probably stayed in the #1 shirt for another season.

Rumours in the Leicester local papers are that they will make a bid if they dont get Yakubu

Know disrespect to Leicester but that would be a sideways move in the grand scheme of things. LCFC are probably a bit further along than us, but I would feel quite hard done by if he went to another Championship club.

I guess at the end of the day it will be what Nicky wants.
With us he's virtually guaranteed a start in a Championship side.
Leicester will probably offer more money, but it looks like they may have several quality strikers (Nugent on his way there too?)
Alternatively he may feel that he wants to go Prem League. I guess someone may take a punt on him, but he could sit on the bench for most of the season.
My advice to him would be to sign a new contract at Ashton Gate, maybe a 1 year extension? That way he plays every week in an environment where he is comfortable, and who knows Prem League with City in 2012/13???

If he doesn't sign and starts the season on fire again then there could be a mad scramble/bidding war in January. If a bid comes in and we turn it down then he could get the hump and go cold and no-one wants that to happen, so it might be best to let him go with a bid of 3m+ imo.

Thanks for the opinions, comments and welcomes all, it's obviously a subject that many of us who follow City have been giving some thought......fingers crossed eh! I don't want to overstate things but I thought we were a different side when Maynard came back in towards the end of last season.

Like one poster said though, with or without Nicky Maynard.......we move on!

The player can be replaced, but it would be a disaster and pretty embarrising if we lose him for less than what we paid. Decent administration should eliminate this chance.
