Chan Tien Ghee had a brief but important role in transitioning from the Sam to Vincent eras. He left to pursue 'other business opportunities', though I always felt there was more to it behind the scenes. Where would we be if he'd stayed? Where would we be if he hadn't arrived at all? An honourable man whose departure seemed a bit odd.
I liked the guy very much. Seemed really genuine and interested in the club after we gave his son a trial with us after other clubs had turned him down. Not a wealthy man hinself, but he was responsible for introducing "real money" in the form of Vincent Tan. I too felt there was more behind the scenes regarding his departure. It was suggested at the time he disagreed with Tan's obsession with changing the club colours and therefore its' historical representation in the eyes of its' supporters. If so, how right he was and it took Tan a couple of years to realise he'd made a big mistake, but sadly TG had long departed.
