For the benefit ( or not ) of others . Hello there . As brief as I can make it . I have a bad sick record , no denying it . However the underlying factors , Stomach Illness & Depression are under control . I had a bout of depression and went sick , they changed my medication and that sorted it . It did not stop **** from issuing me an initial Final Warning , I decided not to fight it because I didn't need the pressure . I then came down with the Flu in March this year , I had even paid for my own FLU JAB last October . I came in feeling **** because I did not want to go sick . Lots of people saw me , and a senior manager told me to go home ( he asked if I was fit to drive and I said I was ) . I passed out at the wheel of my car driving the WRONG WAY down Mountbatten way . Crossed 2 lanes of traffic , crashed my car and hit a tree. Spent a week in isolation because first they thought I had scarlet fever , then when thy realised how serious my Flu was , they kept me in . I then went home ( still off sick ) . During that time my Father passed away of cancer . When I returned to work , they issued me with a Final Formal Warning . I appealed the decision stating that I was not disputing my sick record , just that I had been told by management that any stand alone cases MAY be treated in isolation . I said if paying for your own flu jab , coming down with a severe bout of influenza , being sent home , crashing your car and spending a week in isolation is NOT a stand alone case , what is ????? They rejected my appeal . Now I work for ********* that was until ****1st this year a ***** company . Now it is part of ***** Group , but you won't see **** on the vans etc . Before HR knew that ************ would be hived off the procedure was you could appeal 1st , 2nd , 3rd & 4th line management . 1st & 2nd have no legal powers , they just do what HR tell them . 3 & 4 tier have legal responsibilities , so they have to be very careful . SINCE they knew we were being hived off , they have moved the goal posts , You only get level of appeal you don't agree with the level 1 , level 2 looks at it , if he rejects your appeal , that's that . UNLESS you want to take out a grievance case against the level 2 , then it becomes personal . I decided NOT to take out a grievance case , as I may become even more of a marked man . The union have said that IF I go sick in the 6 month period , they will have to be very sure before they sack me , but our company is in a stage now where they will fire people and , if the individual chooses to fight it , that is a chance they are prepared to take . If They sack me , the union can fight my case , look for a settlement , medical retirement etc . These are avenues that would not ( easily ) have been available to me if I was NOT in the union . Sorry for my long post . Hope it helps .
Cracking first day at the food festival. Found a nice little spot to park up for the night in my new van. Got a couple of beers and some nice air dried salami to watch the moon rising to.
Yes it is. Scene of a German U-boat attack on US troops practicing for D-Day landings. There’s an old US tank that was brought up from a torpedoed ship in the car park here.
Yeah I’ve been stoned on that beach in 2005. Probably the last time I smoked the stuff. Went to a seafood restaurant and had lobster after in the village up by the cliffs to the right of slapton. Is there a lighthouse up on the right?? Also isn’t there an abandoned village by the cliffs that washed away? Used to spend a lot of time in Torquay and used to head that way most times I was down there.
Yep. At slapton sands. Loads of GI’s killed by German U-boats during a training exercise. That is a Sherman tank that they lifted off the bottom of the sea decades later and turned it into a war memorial.
