Two City-related questions: Having just seen the new kits for Liverpool and Sevilla made by Warrior - I notice that Warrior have replaced both clubs current crests with a simplified version of an older club crest. Question 1: So, it got me thinking (I know it's unlikely) but if City were to end up with Warrior as kit-maker from next season, what would they simplify our club crest to? Just a tigers head? 3 crowns? simply 'HCAFC'? ...Sevilla's crest for example has been changed to 'SFC' inside a round badge. What would you prefer if it was to happen? i.e. what would you accept for City? I then had a quick Google to see if there were any City badges I'd forgotten about off the top of my head and came across this web page: http://thebeautifulhistory.wordpress.com/clubs/hull-city/ Question 2: I noticed the bit about City starting out as 'Hull Comets' (presumably after being Hull Town?); the recently closed-down electrical firm founded in Hull was also called Comet - is there any link or reason why 2 Hull-based 'organisations' would have reason to use the word 'Comet'? Or, maybe, did George Hollingbery (founder of Comet) perhaps name his company after the original City name? (He was born in 1903).
1) Isn't the club crest a legally-deposited trademark which enjoys copyright protection for 5 years? Hence why clubs are forever tweaking the design when the protection period is over. Whilst a retro style crest may be welcomed, we have had some **** Tiger crests so care would be needed before resuscitating them (remember the Buchanan/Hinchliffe abortion?) 2) No I doubt it. Several decades between the two, and Hull Comet would have been an obscure old Sunday League side well off the radar for old George H. IMO.
A trade mark registration is indefinite, as long as you pay the minimal fee required to renew, there's absolutely no need to change it after five years.
Maybe I've used the wrong terminology here then. My understanding was that crests kept changing to keep one step ahead of snide gear. But maybe they just keep doing it to 'refurb' the image and give the illusion of modernity and change
We've had the same badge for fifteen years, so have most other clubs, I don't think most clubs change their badges very often, if ever.
Some clubs - the vermin- seem to do it very regularly. Not that they should ever be held up as an example of anything.
Exactly why I assumed ours would be something simple like having 'HCAFC' back instead of a crest, or the 3 crowns as we had them for a season or two - a return to it like Sevilla has returned to the SFC symbol. Though it seems strange that Warrior have the power to change a club crest on the shirt. Must be in the contract or something? I wonder what the link between Hull as a city and the word 'Comet' there is then - there must be a reason two 'organisations' from the city used the term?
I'm sure I read somewhere ages ago that Comet was actually linked to the football club in some way, but I can't remember in what way. It would explain the Comet colour scheme .
You know what he's talking about though. Chelsea are the most recent I remember and is Liverpool's different?
Apparently, there's a large chunk of outraged Hull City supporters who haven't ever heard of "HCAFC". I recommend putting HC(A)FC.
I remember reading somewhere at the time Comet re-branded from the old red, white and blue (?) style logo to the black and amber one, it was mentioned that the bloke responsible for the change was a City fan. Not sure how true it is though. I still don't understand what link the word 'Comet" has with Hull though. There must be a reason two organisations decided to use it? Unless by coincidence they were both just random picks?
