The pl becomes a bigger joke every season. Had a peek at the table this morning. Bottom four clubs have played 36 games between them and won 1. Two of those are of course promoted clubs. Is it time for pl to split into a pl 1 and pl 2 with maybe twelve teams in each. One things for sure, current system is finished as a sport or a spectacle for fans

With the new style of play most teams seem to have adopted I think football as a whole is no longer a spectacle. Week by week I find it harder to muster any enthusiasm for the game. The authorities too, are happy to see the game go like world economics, let the rich get richer and **** the rest.

Market forces determine what’s working and what isn’t. So while even the no hoper clubs in the PL continue to have sell out attendances for their home games, paying extortionate prices for tickets, nothing will change.

It’s obviously what the majority want.

They're more than welcome to it. Thankfully I grew up in the great days of the game and saw proper footballers first hand. Like others, I can't muster any interest in the current game.

Yep....as much as I detest the reds of manc the penalty decision against wet spam was bordering on comic proportions...if that's contact sport as I knew it then stick it :emoticon-0148-yes:

I hate to be pedantic but the very nature of the word “premier” means that you can’t have a PL2. The EPL would also see it as diluting the brand.

Last night i travelled a mere 20 miles to High flying Wombwell in south Yorkshire. Wakey needed at least a point and what a game it was. No diving and cheating with total effort from both teams. We scored the winner (3-2) at 89 mins to cap off a brilliant nights football. I can't stand the Premier league and the players it's just complete bullshit and false hype.

Agree. I don’t even know what’s happening in the Prem,

unfortunately it damages the game in the Championship too,

It would be the same though mate, the aim for PL2 would be promotion to PL1

Keeping it the way it is, you get the odd team that would be PL2 sneaking into a Euro competition

But when you look at current top and bottom tens in the pl it would make for far better sporting spectacles if they were divided in two leagues. As it stands I don’t and won’t watch unless Leeds are there and that’ll be mainly from a sense of duty

It would make the league too small and become like Scotland where everyone plays each other four times just to make the matches up. Secondly I think that as you reduce the numbers the so called bigger clubs alongside the “elite” six would soon want to scrap relegation as it becomes more likely that they could go down.
Brentford, Forest, Brighton and Palace show it can be done if you get your recruitment right. Ipswich look like they’ve built a championship strong squad as if they’re expecting to yo-yo this season and next. That said when they got the gubbing at West Ham they apparently finished the game with 10 players on the pitch that played for them in league one. Never going to stay up if that’s your strength in depth.

Take a look at the Southampton setup. One
Point after nine games and they were better than us clearly. We
Dodged some bullet there. Also the Scottish league isn’t play four times. The last
Round of games are after top bottom split. Far fairer as very few of the last six games are Meaningless. Anyway whatever the solution proves to be, it needs drastic change because as it stands the pl is a borefest

Most financially successful and most watched league in the world. What’s killing it is the biggest clubs insisting on PSR to stop other clubs like Newcastle from breaking up their monopoly, kinda why I hope Man City win. Oh and the jealousy of its success by other European leagues. Surprised no one has noticed that the “new” Champions League format is almost the Super League the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona wanted.

Moot point I know, they certainly had our number head-to-head, but we did finish above them.

England 1,2 and 3 currently. Liverpool the only English side to concede a goal.

Exactly my point and why I don’t watch the champions league. Some of the sides from the are no better than lower premier league/championship teams. It’s been expanded because of the top European clubs jealousy of the success of the premier league.

But they were not better than us, over one playoff final they might have been, we also beat the top two sides home and away. We bottled it at the end, if we hadn’t we’d have been promoted with three players that left for other PL teams. I’m not saying we wouldn’t have been battling to avoid relegation and I do have serious doubts about Farke being PL ready. Sadly there is no answer, the PL elite bolted long ago

One example is Rutter was one of our better players and if we’d got promoted he’d still be at Leeds.

He left for Brighton and is probably their worst player.

The gap is unbridgeable imo unless you manage to stay in the PL for at least five years.

It would take that long to build up the finances, increase stadium capacity etc and then maybe scrape into a European place.

You are spot on in my opinion. Whether people like it or not Southampton beat us three times last season and quite easily. They’re completely out of their depth this year

I think you have to do it through youth, hence why Radz and Orta kept throwing money at youth players. We need to get promoted with three Archie Grays in the team, sadly we’re a million miles away from that.

I’ve said before, PL teams need stricter rules on squad and reserve team depth, limit loans out and allow some of these players to learn their trade lower down and that money to filter down.

Either that, or say the parent club has to pay the loaning club £1m to take the player and zero towards wages.
