In 2008, we saw Hull city centre abound with cockney types flogging rubbish Wembley play-off flags and plaggy horns. I'm told an enterprising chap shifted more Official Programmes in and around Paragon on the morning of the game than the Club did itself. We never got a chance to buy the one-off commemorative Wembley 2008 play off Umbro tracky top / 'walkout jacket'. As I recall, there were some FOC Deano papermasks done by Viking or KCFM, and at Wembley Coca Cola were giving away a paper City megaphone. Pretty sure the club got left in the starting blocks by all this. Six years later, we have a month to get it right. T shirts, flags, mugs, car stickers, commemorative magazines etc- there are plenty of options. For sure, the knock-off merchants will step up to the plate. Will we see a well-stocked clubshop with Adidas redeeming themselves? Or will it just be Mally Welburn's books on offer and foam hands/jester hats from 3 years ago. These occasions come round once every 84 years- carpe ****ing diem!
We are that **** at marketing we'll probably stock Hull City/Sheff Utd half n half scarves for the occasion, which would make me physically sick.
There is a half and half seller in West Park every game now. Madness. I'm sure they'll be on sale down Wembley Way too... it's the nature of the beast. Hull City Council also need to step up to the plate, if only to publicise the city and perform their civic role. I'm talking about advertising hoardings, street banners etc Getting sick of posting this, but someone needs to get Allam and Brady to work together, for our sakes never mind theirs. (Alan Johnson, are you there?) This is as big as playing in the Premiership in terms of being in the (worldwide) public eye and media focus.
You're forgetting, Aggers, those ****e flags and scarves all had HULL FC on them, not City. I wonder if Allam will be waiting for the FA's decision before all the merchandise comes out. No bugger will buy Hull City Tigers/ Hull tigers are off to Wembley except the meffs.
how many times are we gonna hear about flaskers/foam handers plastics ETC ETC - its ****ing boring . some on here need to market a t-shirt with the slogan "i was there when we were ****" im sure there would be 15,000+ sales judging by the drivel on here . There was plenty of complaints last season about our attendance , discussion on how to rectify it - lo and behold we are on the verge of success and people want to shoot anyone who takes their young kids to their first game There's a lot of grizzly old farts on here - dinosaurs even !!! (post not merely directed at OP - more at the general attitude to those not basking in their lacoste underpants .
I was unaware that any stuff had Hull FC on it. I will not buy from ambulant cockneys in any circumstances.
Wrong thread. This one is urging the club to maximise this fantastic commercial opportunity and learn from the mistakes of the past. Perhaps you'd like to start your own thread about people/subjects you don't like? Go for it!
A shop on Kingswood is already selling some tacky tee shirts. Hull. Cup semi finalists 2014. I would have thought the club shop's stock is already getting run down for the new Hull Tigers stuff, if it get's past the FA. So there must be a doubt if the club will actually order any new stock because it will have the Hull City AFC badge on it ? A scarf has to be a priority (not half and half) and a decent quality polo shirt. Decent club flags. Decent quality mugs with the clubs crest and the occasion/date always sell well. Those little flags you hang out of car windows with FA Cup Semi Finalists Wembley 2014. Not my cup of tea but they cannot be too expensive to buy in and they seem popular. In 2008 I knew of a Post Office, yes a PO, who sold over 200 black and amber scarves and hundreds of rosettes. The club didn't receive a penny piece and the PO had never shown any allegiance to City up to them and none since. But I bet they have an order in for scarves and rosettes. As for marketing. A few years ago when we were getting 'Hull is a rugby town' shoved down our throats every day by the local media I knew a bloke who had some 'Hull=a football City' car stickers printed. Cost him about £200 for 2,000 and he sold enough at 50p each to pay for his season ticket and get his initial outlay back plus a bit of beer money. Then the rest were sent all over the country FOC to anyone who asked for one. This was at a time when we were getting crowds of 6,000. Its not rocket science.
Surely with Allam’s famous unquestionable business acumen kicking in, the club will be well on top of it. His CV proves it.
Why can't they take them to their first game for a league game? Or a cup replay in a half empty stadium?
I remember in 2008 plenty of small shops had 'Good Luck Tigers' decorations in the windows, and many local traders got behind it creating a rolling wave of goodwill and optimism- like we've seen all too rarely in our history. I would prefer to go Wembley by train but it seems that despite our own rail co., and being a city terminus, there is not much chance of this happening. I also understand Wigan will be struggling to make the last train home if their game goes to extra time. On a positive note, the so-called 'Magic' weekend at Manchester Hunter's ground will cream off some of the interlopers and rubbernecker families who got on the HCFC bandwagon in May 2008.
I want the club shop stocking Union Jack flags with slogans Keith Edwards - Tiger Not A Blade and Billy Whitehurst - Tiger Not A Blade and Steve Bruce - Tiger Not A Blade.
If the club had any merchandising nous there would already be an order for 5000 flags saying Hull City, Wembley 2014. Hopefully it can be used more than once. If CTWD have any cash left there are plenty of opportunities to raise extra funds.
Hull City and White ****e ones and Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday ones are just as abhorrent. Although any half and half scarf is an abomination.
As Hull is City of Culture designate, they need to mix it up a bit. Some COC (City of Culture) T Shirts (Plenty of candidates ) Black and Amber deerstalkers and Monocles
