Vs Oxford in the Championship. I wonder how we'd get on against this team now.... https://rokerreport.sbnation.com/20...-seventh-heaven-for-sunderland-against-oxford https://wisemensay.co.uk/the-magnificent-seven-remembering-when-sunderland-blew-oxford-united-away/
He didn't play many games iirc, that midfield picked itself. Was a great side to watch that one, similarities with us now tbh.
Strength in depth all over the pitch there. Its no wonder we were so good that season. Injuries in those days didnt seem so common either .
Is Craddock playing in goal Canny squad that was. Decent bunch. Always have a massive soft spot for Craddock, but I do look at it and think we are on a bit of a different trajectory now.
Had some mystery illness that was undetected for ages. Reid just thought he was unfit/lazy and his Sunderland career never took off Edit: Was Hepatitis
Not including Quinny but Tommy Sorenson was our only over seas player, so we are definitely doing things alot differently now.
Sure I remember him playing in a league cup game early on, want to say against york but not sure and he was horrendous. Don't remember him playing again after that
Those were the days, loved the Reidy year's, and now loving the current squad. Hhhaaawwwwaaaaayyyyyyy the lads
1998 was the year I got properly into football. That Sunderland squad, The world cup in France was the first time I'd watched every game of a tournament that I could, I was 13/14 and Sunderland were mint. The world just felt different back then aswell. Good times
Add Stefan Schwarz and Eric Roy to that squad and for me you have the best game at the SOL when we did Chelsea 4-1!
Possibly the best Sunderland performance but I reckon Spurs 3-1 was a better game overall. It had the lot.
Yep. Bent scored in the first minute. Zenden scored that volley and Ferdinand had a goal harshly disallowed. We could’ve scored 10+ that day. Battered Spurs.
