On the 20th of January a thread was started title "how many points will we get" at the time the wheels had seemed to have fallen of our promotion caravan, some "fans favourites" had been moved on and there was an air of doom and gloom coming from some areas with some people questioning Martin Allen's position. Despite this Mad Dog picked up the January Manager of the month award and since a low point of our televised match at home to Wycombe things seemed to be turning around with what can be best described as determined performances with a focus on "if you don't concede you Don't lose". Some fans now are talking as if promotion is assured, almost guaranteed, the forum though seems to be much quieter though and some appear to have stopped posting all together now that it's more difficult to be overly critical.

It's Funny thing being a football fan. So emotional, so illogical and yet we all want more. I wonder what we'll be talking about this time next month????

    Glory, Glory Gillingham?

    Or

    Doom and Gloom?

Either way I'll still be here, reading your comments, sharing mine and trying to add balance as best I can.

I'm quiet sure if there is a point to this but thank you for taking the time to read my thoughts and possibly sharing your own.

I think we share the same thoughts in regards to the quiet on the back of recent good Gills performances. I was going to post a comment to that affect today on twitter as that area of social media had been exactly the same. It is what partly prompted my thread in regards to the question of 'Promotion at Easter' on not606.

The strange differences as you say between doom & gloom and glory, glory.

Must admit I have been quiet myself during this last week but that was more due to some important work commitments more than anything else. Hence why I cannot make the Oxford game on Tuesday - it has really messed up all my plans.

I have been much the outspoken critic of MA over certain aspects of his policies. That is just be being truthful to my thoughts and I remain stand fast on those beliefs. However, there is no denying the stats and I have to be just as truthful in expressing my thoughts in regards to our achievements and possible goals in equal measure.

Agree. It was on my calendar to attend. However, last minute events have destroyed any possibility of me attending the game. I'll explain Saturday, so stop trying to wind me up <laugh><ok>

In football there are 'winners' and 'losers'. MA is a winner and the fact we are top of the league and have been most of the season should be celebrated. Every other team/fans in Div 2 would give their right arm to be in our position, but we've still got our moaners 'brb' for example. I almost get the feeling some fans don't want MA to succeed, because the previous manager who was seen as some sort of god and mystical figure failed so miserably.

Support and celebrate the brilliance of MA and accept that soemtimes to succeed you have to play dirty!!!

    We don't even play dirty.

We don't go around fouling, we just defend brilliantly and as a team - something that never happened under Hess.

It's incredibly hard, nigh-on impossible to pass your way out of league two - there are far too many dodgy pitches and physical defences for that. I think only the talent of Messrs Jackson, Barcham, King and Royce allowed us to do (an approximation of) that in 08-09.

Allen has recognised the need for pragmatism and defensive solidity to get out of league two, and we're nearly there! But it would be nice to see one or two performances reminiscent of those early season 4-0s, maybe just once before the end of the season!

Yeah we don't play dirty, we just defend well. The football is not always the most attractive but we remain disciplined most of the time but when we have an aim to win and we have a lead we just do all we can to hold and if that means parking the bus then that is what we do but you are correct to say we don't play dirty as we have been much more disciplined this season than last season.

Although I entitled the thread "What a difference a month makes" maybe it should have been "what a difference a day makes" after the recall of Cody seems to have turned the tide from glory lory to doom and gloom.
