I was having a chat with my 7 year old on the way home last night about putting together a great Watford side together with players that are still currently playing football: We came up with this team, can you improve it and how well would we do in the prem with this team, mid table me thinks .. Foster Marriappa, Taylor, Carlisle, Robbo Pennant, Cleverley, Lansbury, Young DG, T. Smith Subs: Eagles, Helgusson, Mutch, Phillips, ****tu, Williamson (dont like him!, but he was good)
I'd have Johnson there instead of Pennant and DeMerit instead of ****tu. Also, why no sub keeper? I'd have James for that.
Loach Doyley, Mariappa, Taylor, Dickinson Yeates, Eustace, Hogg, Forsyth Sordell, Garner Subs: Gilmartin, Mirfin, Jenkins, Deeney, Weimann Sure, there were a few contenders from years gone by. Some of them even fly off to play in exotic locations like Rustenberg (almost) every other summer. But let's face it, all of them left because they lacked the stomach to stay here.
Tommy smith and DG scores more goals for the club, and Doyley is IMO a fan favourite but is not really that amazing. One of the Williamson's is on the bench.
My "dream" team would be: Albert Camus; Noggin the Nog, Julia Bradbury, the Pope, Thomas Hardy; Freddie Trueman, Nye Bevan, Mississippi John Hurt, Sophia Loren; Mohammed Ali, and Jerome K Jerome Not a great football side but it would be a good dream...
Presumably Sophia Loren would play in the hole? Mississippi John Hurt would always be injured? Thomas Hardy would be far from the madding crowd in the Rookery?
NZ, true there's some doubt about his best position, but then when you're infallible it doesn't much matter where you play...
