Plenty of counter bids to follow!

  3. If £27m is the opening offer, expect the end fee to be £35m+

We wont sell for less than £35m, we simply don't have to. The lad is way ahead of Bale at this age.

27m for a left back. Not even worth half that.

This is what's killing the game. How is he worth 35m? Everyone just pulls the numbers out of their butt especially if the player is British. And Bale that you're referring ain't worth 85m either. It's all a terrible joke of money laundering in football.

This really. Look at what we wasted on Caroll and downing.
I would like Shaw at Liverpool, but not for more than £20m.

Yeah, this is what's killing the game.

Not diving, not players on £300k a week, not big clubs hoarding any child who can kick a football then releasing them at 21, not being charged £60+ to watch a football match or Sky moving matches at a whim to Saturday lunchtime or Monday night to please people who support a team based hundreds of miles away they have no link to.

Southampton daring to hold out for more money for a player they've invested a fortune in and taken a chance on rather than kowtowing to a big club. Those bastards on the coast.

His rights are worth what someone will pay for them, just as is the case with anything that can be bought or sold. That he is English and could play immediately for most of the top teams matters because many of said teams (particularly the two biggest spenders) struggle to meet the quota on home-grown players, thus expanding his value beyond his ability.

I can't see this as a done deal yet. Isn't te lad a mad Chavski fan - and with Cole on his way out and their need for a home-grown player on the books, plus their spending power .....................................

I can't see how this kills football.

That money stays in the game. With it Southampton buy a replacement or two. Possibly one from the lower leagues. It could filter down.

<doh>, like if we win the league next season, Southampton get an extra million.

  20. Sometimes matth, you just have to accept the something has gone straight over your head. Optional extras is a old joke on these boards, it was in reference to a Liverpool posters claiming we had "optional extras" in the Carroll and/or Henderson deals <ok>
