Not diving, not players on £300k a week, not big clubs hoarding any child who can kick a football then releasing them at 21, not being charged £60+ to watch a football match or Sky moving matches at a whim to Saturday lunchtime or Monday night to please people who support a team based hundreds of miles away they have no link to. His rights are worth what someone will pay for them, just as is the case with anything that can be bought or sold. That he is English and could play immediately for most of the top teams matters because many of said teams (particularly the two biggest spenders) struggle to meet the quota on home-grown players, thus expanding his value beyond his ability.

I can't see how this kills football. That money stays in the game. With it Southampton buy a replacement or two. Possibly one from the lower leagues. It could filter down.
