Made his name at Hibs and has also played for Celtic - has got 3 caps for Scotland and is the 3rd highest goalscorer of all time in the SPL. We've got him 'til Christmas. Now I reckon this is a very good signing for a team 91st in the league as he's a proven goalscorer at a much higher level than we currently are. It's clearly a testament to McGhee's contacts north of the border. Undoubtedly the lad's got some off-field issues, including an impending court case for homophobic language, but as long as he can fire some goals in for us I'll be happy. Whaddya think Gasheads?
Who knows how this might go, positive news today with both signings though, lets hope they come off, as for Riordan being a lad off the pitch, get over it!!
Hi SolongSoblue and welcome! My thoughts exactly - hopefully he score goals for us, what he does in his spare time is up to him!
At last McG is using his contacts and maybe calling in a few favours. Shame Pipe isn't with us anymore he could have shown Derek Riordan the social side of Bristol Good loan signing.
Cheers Blue where were my manners? Hi, hope I can enhance the forum with my take on things. Hey Gas very nearly added that we should recall Pipe as well, get some balls in the squad, but didn't want to be seen to be to controversial with my first post, in all fairness I guess the Pipe episode was far more serious than Riordan's alleged name calling, you get that at every game at the Mem.
"Undoubtedly the lad's got some off-field issues, including an impending court case for homophobic language, but as long as he can fire some goals in for us I'll be happy". I know nothing about the player or his alleged remarks however it makes me uncomfortable,Pipey if I remember correctly was not in the team until the case was completed and a judgement handed down. It seems odd that we are not applying the same rules to Riordan. Personal view is that he should (If not guilty) join us once the case has been heard and a verdict given. COR
True enough SoLong, you can't say much these days without someone getting offended. And unfortunately I tend to offend with my every breath Pipe would definately add some muscle, could do with someone like him in the team plus he'd be a handy mate to have in tow on a night out By the way welcome to not606 hope you like it here and decide to stick around
Understand what you mean COR but I doubt it's in the same league as for example Oldham taking that murderer Hughes. He probably called some gay bloke a queer ****. I say that to Chris all the time and he's ok with it
I thought that Pipey was a stand out midfielder prepared to put his foot in where needed supported his team to the hilt and geed up the crowd when we were flat. Dissapointed when he had his contract terminated and left.Appreciate that his offence was different to Riordan's. Has anyone looked up the details of his case,my assumption is that the board and MM are happy that offering a contract to him will not backfire on the clubs reputation (not guilty until proven),they did support Junior agogo, when in 2004, the side stayed at a hotel in Doncaster, following which Agogo was accused by a waitress of rape. He was cleared of all charges in his February 2005 trial. He went through a rocky time during that period. So lets hope they have done there homework COR
Just had a look at Twitter. His case comes up October 5th. His playing record looks a bit up and down. No doubt that he has played some pretty good stuff. He has bounced around a bit and on several occasions apparently refused to move when clubs have agreed transfer fees. I wouldn't want to prejudge, but just hope that the 'Barton Factor' doesn't come into the equation.
It's a short-term contract, so we can't really lose. If he's a liability and disruptive, he can be shown the door - but if he turns in a shift and puts the ball in the back of the net then we're laughing. He's definitely got a good goalscoring record in the SPL, so let's see what he can do in League 2.
Celtic fan in peace, having just seen you guys have signed Riordan. He's a special talent, no doubts about that, but has his head so far up his own arse he can taste his own tonsils. Still, without wanting to cause offence, he should be playing championship level at the very least never mind League 2. Expect at least 10 goals this season, probably a wee red card for dissent towards a ref, and front page of the local paper regarding his antics at the club xmas night out!
Hi OSP and welcome to the board of the West Country's finest football team! I think you sum it up pretty well. I'm interested in the 10+ goals that he should get us - he definitely had a great record for Hibs. Hopefully Mark McGhee will get the best out of him and keep him on the straight and narrow - we may be able to help the lad resurrect his career if he does well down here.
He looks superb - I'd pay money to watch this... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUP-_61GP1g ...and if I had any hair left I'd get the haircut too...or then again maybe not!
Great vid Gastro - I'd definitely be interested in some of that down the Mem, some absolute crackers in there!
Could well turn out to be a decent signing for the blue-few!.......he should grab the goals you have been struggling to find. Pretty sure City were linked with him back in the Gary Johnson days?...I think he may be a mate of Ivan Sproul's or something? Good luck guys..........
I'm pretty sure you were linked to him a couple of years ago CCR, oh how the mighty have fallen! As long as he gets us goals and helps us move up the league, I will be a happy chap!
I'm surprised by your tolerance of him? I would have thought homophobic chanting would have been more distasteful to your fans than normal fans..
