.....this is gunna take some time!!! Thankfully, Utd, Spurs and Everton are all also dropping points.....I expect all three to start to get it right soon though. Question is: Will we?
Change suggests we both sold and bought players. The only first team players to leave are Agger and Suarez (unless you're couting Moses and Cissokho) and the former hardly played anyway #pedanticasever We've made a lot of additions and we have changed half the starting line-up, it doesn't help that Brod decided to start pissing about with the formation either. Plus, SaSaS was what made us successful last season and we've lost Suarez, Studge is injured and Bod decided to drop the remaining Sterling against Villa too. What do we expect?
Plus with Sturridge and Allen out, as well as an out of form Coutinho - that's 3 key players who pretty much form a spine. We've had to bed in a few of the new boys sooner than we would have hoped but that's football. Hopefully, we can still be around top 4 by January, then I think things will click.
Given that we've got a virtually new back four and pretty new attacking 3/4....I'd say that it's systemic change. Wish we'd bought a decent DCM The Sterling clanger was awful. BR's turning into the ultimate tinkerman!!!
We've been crying out for a DM for a few years now and it's criminal that Rodger's hasn't brought one in - unless his plan was to play Can there? (I think it would be waste if it was because I see him a box to box mid).
You tapped up and plundered the heart of Southampton's squad.... It hasn't taken Ronald Koeman much tame to propel Saints to 2nd in the league. Oh, the irony... (Sorry lads, couldn't resist).
Three players is hardly the heart. Soton were already looking to replace Lambert, hence the low fee, Lovern was there 1 season. Lallana was the only 'heart' of the team we picked up and we paid far too much for him. Saints fans can cry all they want about players leaving to join us but lets not forget they made around £50m out of us. Frankly I think they got the better end of the deal. Didn't want Lallana, Lovern doesn't fill me with confidence and Lambert is here to retire (but nothing against Lambert)
and so you should... i advised these lads last year to enjoy it while it lasted and they even finally dared to dream... though i must admit... they seem to have taken it too much to heart.
Just bringing it up over and over .... I think Liverpool fans feel the same as saints fans on this, you didn't want to lose your players and we didn't particularly want them [no disrespect intended]
Of course we are, look at the profit we made & look at the table - as it's probably only going to be like this a few weeks, we're going to bring it up as much as we can in that time. We're just gloating while we can. Or, as Archers said, enjoying it whilst it lasts. Afterall, we made a £30mn profit on signings this summer - mostly thanks to you. Thanks for the extra squad depth.
If it keeps you comfortably in the league, I'd be happy. Southampton were a breath of fresh air last year and look decent again despite losing so much talent. Please carrying on working on next summers crop that you can overcharge us for!
It sort of doesn't fit for me that you need to keep thanking Liverpool fans for the profit you made from the players etc. because we really don't care too much [again no disrespect intended]. I'm guessing the Lallana sale feels for your lot a bit like the Torres sale felt for us except the Chelsea fans were buzzing about it, made a replica banner [including the Shankly Gates, they had no clue ], thought they'd taken our best player - who'd actually been off for us for a long, long time, and were generally rubbing it in our faces. We don't especially like or dislike Lallana - he may turn out good who knows, but there's definitely no two-way thing going on between our clubs over your players coming to us. Every time you bring it up, we're like 'ok, whatever'. Just to add I quite like Southampton so best of luck for the season and I'm really pleased you're not struggling as you all expected
what southampton fans don't seem to realize is you can't buy a dog for less than 10mil now in the prem so unless you are newcastle buying in the french bargain bucket... well 20mil spunked on lovern was barely going rate and while everyone knows lallana aint worth 15mil in reality the 25mil spunked is just one more player to us
Thanks, I'm sure we will. We know you can't buy cheap in the Prem, we paid 12mn for Shane Long ourselves, but most of the replacements we got in for players you bought were far cheaper: Lallana (£20mn) -> Tadic (£10mn) Lovren (20mn) -> Gardos (£6mn) & Toby Alderweireld (loan with ption to buy for £6.3mn) Yes, we bought two equally good replacements in for the price of Lovren. Only Lambert's(£4mn) replacement was more expensive -> Pelle(£8mn), but we needed a replacement for Lambert even if he had stayed, he was only going to be an impact sub this season, whereas Pelle is starting every game. All our replacements have so far seemed to be of similar quality, though the defence hasn't had a thorough test yet. But it's Fonte that's always been the leader in defence (upgraded to team captain since Lallana's left), not either of the other two (nor, indeed, Lovren).
