According to Sky we are keen on Crawley striker Matt Tubbs. Not too sure if he is the answer to be honest. Let the spotty Nigels have him. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11719_7137096,00.html
Seen that earlier, considering its source I very much doubt its true. Besides, I can't see him offering us anything different than we've already got, and with BWP and Hayes clearly being first choice strikers, he'd have to work hard to keep Euell and Benson off the bench (not to mention further competition from Popo and Wagstaff).
Cant see us getting him - Crawley are a League One team based on finances and dont need to sell Three Goals this season and 40 in 48 for Crawley so he definitely knows where the back of the net is, whether he can do it at League One level remains to be seen, dont forget we've a team full of creators now so couldnt see him having any problems. Think it was Ponders who said it yet after Saturday I wouldnt mind us chasing Ryan Lowe
No doubt that he could score goals at this level, but the thing is, Crawley have absolutely no financial need to sell him. I think there's rather a lot of bored journalists sitting around twiddling their thumbs today...
b a good signing my brother in law is a crawley fan and aparantly very good player tubbs is and got a hatfull of goals i think my recommendation to powell on tubbs last year paid off
O lawdy, yes A4L - deadline day - thank goodness I'm in a meeting all day. Never thought I'd hear myself saying that...
Couldn't be more different from me Tewkes, I've booked work off that day, highly doubt I'll go outside all day, Sky Sports News awaits.
A move for Ryan Lowe would be great and I can see Bury snapping up a bid of around 250k. Competition for the striker spots would be red-hot and make for fantastic viewing on the pitch.
Crawley turned down an offer of £700,000 last January (from Swindon I think after they sold Austin), why would they accept a lower offer now?
He's a good player no doubt about that. However, he's 32 and Imo there's other forwards about who are every bit as good with fewer miles on the clock.
That is the only sticking point, Franco. But Grant Holt is doing alright and there is only two years in age difference. But for 250k we could have a really good player on board. Small beer for getting out of this league!
I see what youâre saying mate, and I canât really disagree with any of that. Howeverâ¦: I might be wrong but, I think weâll all agree that BWP and Hayes are pretty much our first choice pairing up top? This being the case, I would personally rather we brought a 3rd/4th striker who is a little more of a long term option. Someone between 25 and 28 who has experience of scoring goals in the football league. Who like much of our young squad has the potential to play Championship football. Iâve only ever seen Tubbs play once during a cup run for Sailsbury (at least I think it was them) and I must confess I liked the look of him. To me he looked an out goal machine. When I told a Crawley supporting colleague of mine that we were supposedly in for Tubbs his response was and I quote⦠âHands off, heâs our f*****g best playerâ. He also reaffirmed what someone else on here has already alluded to, that they are in a good position financially and that they are very unlikely to sellâ¦!! Also, Crawley paid £250,000 for him and I presume his value has only increased⦠Could be costly if it does come offâ¦
Great response, Franco. Cheers. I do not think the Tubbs transfer will take place. Like you say, Crawley will expect a handsome sum to let him go - and rightly so. I should think that Tubbs would love to come to us, though. Who else is there that fits the bill?
His lack of league experience is the only worry for me Ponders. Although 40 goals in 45 games for Crawley goes some way to persuading me that he has something in his locker (on the flip side,1 goal in 8 for Bournemouth aint the best though)â¦!! Potential candidates for me would be: Cody Mcdonald â Scored for fun whilst on loan at Gillingham. Is in the last year of his deal with Norwich. Simeon Jackson - Colleague of the above who has fallen down the pecking order at Norwich. Could fancy a move away in order to get back playing regular. Dexter Blackstock â At Nottingham Forest and like Jackson finds himself down the pecking order behind the likes of Miller, Tudgay, Derbyshire and McGoldrick. With first team appearances potentially scarce he could be open to a move. Freddie Eastwood â Never seems to play for Coventry in his favoured position of Centre Forward. May just fancy a move back down south. Calvin Zola â Divides opinion, But heâs big, quick, strong, is decent with his back to goal and knows where the net is. Wouldnât cost the earth eitherâ¦
Out of those options I think I would take Jackson or Eastwood. But only on permanent deals. No more loans. That is a good list, though.
