Frimpong signs on loan, according to the club's Facebook. I have to say I don't know much about him.

    From Arsenal's 606:

Didn't he play really well on loan for Wolves before getting horribly injured? He looked immense for them in a couple of games. The potential is there, but he needs to get over injury problems and his bad temperament. Sadly, I doubt he'll get many games with Fulham. Seems a pointless deal.

He's another Lansburry where you hope every loan will ignite something nonexistent in him, but in the end you have to accept that he is just fundamentally average. And a massive liability while on the field.

Get rid now, and maybe he has a half-decent career in the Championship... he has never even shown an indication that he belongs in a top table PL team.

Hope we gave them an option to buy.

    Massively underwhelming.

This could be a useful signing. He is only 21 I think so he brings youth to the team. He is a tough tackler and will provide some good protection to the defence. Coming through the Arsenal ranks should mean that he can use the ball a bit. Jol will have to calm him down a bit but I feel this is a really good bit of business by the club. Well done andf good luck to the lad, may his time at Fulham be a good one.

Coming through the Arsenal ranks doesn't really count for a lot these days.

That said, free is free, if he's carp then we haven't lost anything, but let's hope he isn't the ONLY midfield signing Jol has planned.

In his club interview recently, Jol mentionned that when we lose the ball whilst attacking we are susceptible to the counter attack, Frimpong will provide some steel in the midfield and an engine that can get up and down. By no means the finished article but a good addition to our squad. Bandy got to disagree about coming through the Arsenal ranks mate, they are taught to play quality football and coming to a club like fulham, that quality will hopefully come through.

I feel this is a low-risk loan deal, really. As long as it is not the only midfield signing, I would say this is only positive for us.

Frimpong did look very good for Wolves before getting injured and hasn't looked quite as good in the Arsenal reserves whilst coming back. Sounds a lot like Ramsay, no? I don't think many would have complained if we'd signed Ramsay and the situations are very similar.

EDIT: And on the "coming through the Arsenal ranks" point - no-one is really criticising the quality of the talent coming through at Arsenal, more that they sell their best young players as soon as a big club comes in for them. I think coming through the Arsenal ranks is still a big plus.

I'd just like to say welcome to Fulham FC Frimpong, I hope you have a successful time with us. I trust you will prove our doubters wrong and in a short while have them singing your praises. Good luck.

I think those bits are the key Froggy. He’ll certainly provide some muscle in midfield.

He’s not had many games (6 in the last 6 weeks on loan to Charlton) since coming back from a seven month lay off with a cruciate injury. However there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be up and running straight away - important for us a) to provide competition for places and b) cover. Just as important he seems keen on joining us.

He won’t be available for tomorrow, having signed after 12 nooon, but will be for the West Ham game and could be exactly the player to get in among them.

I agree with Bandit. We still need a holding midfielder - like Boateng.

    I’m sure Frimpong’s loan signing is all okay since the Club have officially announced it and must therefore have had him registered as a Fulham player. However I was slightly intrigued by the FIFA ruling that;

"Players may be registered for a maximum of three clubs during the period from 1 July until 30 June of the following year. During this period, the player is only eligible to play in Official Matches for two clubs."

Frimpong has already played for Arsenal in Capital One Cup games against Coventry City and Reading. And six games for Charlton. So, I’m a little confused how he can play for us.

    Can anybody clarify ?

We have a bit of form in this -

"Nicky Shorey is on a collision course with FIFA because he played for his third club this season when he made his Fulham debut against Portsmouth on Wednesday. The world body are unhappy that English football continues to provide a loophole to avoid their transfer rules, which state that players can represent a maximum of two clubs in one season.

The former England full back played for Fulham after signing on loan from Aston Villa, following an earlier nine-game spell at Nottingham Forest. But Shorey and Fulham are backed by the FA, the Premier League and the Football League, all of whom classify his time at Forest as an emergency loan."

The issue here is that FIFA rules do not recognise "emergency loans" (being loans conducted outside a transfer window) as valid contracts. Article 10, point 3 of the FIFA player registration rules states "...the minimum loan period shall be the time between two registration periods." Emergency loans basically utilise a loophole which FIFA hates and announced last year will be closed from 2014.

As such, there is a grey area with regards to marrying the two clubs rule with emergency loans. The compromise seems to be that emergency loans do not count towards the two club rule until they are outlawed in 2014. This allowed us to sign Shorey and allows us to sign Frimpong.

Very interesting! I think we'd do well to sign him. He'd be a step in the right direction.

Not sure what to think about this one. Seemed like a desperation signing at the time and he hasn't impressed since he's been here (was awful when he came on against Sunderland) but no fee means minimum risk. However, right now he is probably our 4th/5th best central midfielder behind Kara, Sidwell, Enoh, Diarra, Urby, Richardson etc.

Agree about his performance(s) so far Bandit.

I supppose he's got age on his side though. And; Diarra's going to struggle to make it, Urby is very unlikely to stay (certainly if he doesn't get games!), Jol seems to have Richardson marked in as left back (whether he likes it or not).

And, Frimpong would be a free transfer.

Not sure we can judge him on a grand total of 90 minutes playing time since 25 Jan. I think he is a great player.

If we can't judge him on those 90 minutes then what are you judging him on? A few performances for Wolves in the Championship?

Enoh may well be better but he's not played yet! <laugh>

To be fair he was good for Wolves when they were in the PL.

I do agree with you to some extent, he's not exactly been inspiring for us yet. I still think he'd be a decent signing though.
