    (according to the Daily Fail)

    Too much?

Surely they could spend £17m better than that.

Big Sam will build their style of play around him.

West ham's footballing philosophy will go straight out the window. Would probably keep them up though.

    Probably about right at 17mill
Would Liverpool except a 18mill loss though
That is a lot of money to lose on a player

17M on Carroll will not keep West Spam up.....I dont rate the guy what-so-ever and the fact he is valued over £10m is an absolute joke.

If they are thinking about spending 17m they could build a decent side, instead of wasting it on that donkey!

How many dirty magazines and plastic male appendages does Gold have to sell to raise £17 million?

I am sure there is someone on this board who will have the answer at their finger tips.

Don't rate Carroll at all. The days of that type of striker are over in this league. At the Euros, his goal aside, he looked a right donkey.

The Spammers would be stupid to do that. Fat Sam won't last beyond Christmas and then they will bring in a new manager with a different playing philosophy lumped with a £17m striker who doesn't suit their style

Agree with Frankster. Anything above £10m is an absolute joke. There are probably hundreds of strikers in Europe with equal or superior ability. Nothing special whatsoever. The idiot who signed Torres at Chelsea was outdone by a bigger idiot who signed Carroll at Liverpool.

Don't see this as anything more than a publicity stunt by Gold to please the fans.

I'd bet they don't even spend £17 mill by the end of the window.

The reason they went down last time was because they had spent years overpaying players, and overpaying on transfer fees - that came back to bite them and they ended up with a poor squad.

Now they are doing exactly the same! Madness.

At least with us we have owners who can support us whilst we are in the process of becoming self sustainable.
