http://www.dailystar.co.uk/football/view/254548/Sam-Allardyce-s-4-5m-bid-for-Grant-Holt/ I think I'd take that to be honest.
Could start a bidding war.Not enough but it could get hot if Villa and Sunderland join in.Holt would suit West Ham's style of play.
It's a fair price and as others have said, he is worth more to the team with his leadership and passion. Certainly wouldn't pay for a direct replacement, but would help towards it.
It's just like any other business deal.If you only have one party you are pretty much stymied and have to take what they offer. However this is very different. There is West Ham,Villa and possibly Sunderland too, plus any others that might not yet be on the radar. There is loads of time before next season begins and we can afford to wait a while. I would prefer Holt to go to Sunderland because (1) they are a nice club. (2) They won't be relegation material. If however Villa emerge as top bidders we should let him go there.Whichever way we look set to get £5million plus now.Could be considerably more...let the auction begin.
I think Leicester might come in for him again too. They have money and would pay for a proven goal scorer to get them out of the Championship
i've heard the bid (if there was a bid) was closer to £3m than £4.5m. i think if someone bids £5m then he can go.
Daily Telegraph reporting Villa bid of £3m plus they will fight any compensation payment for Lambert as his contract (apparantly) give him leave to talk to any PL club which Norwich blocked hence his resignation and therefore no compo to pay?? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-Citys-Paul-Lambert-as-their-new-manager.html
I'll hate Lambert if he starts taking our players. It would prove he doesn't care about the Norwich fans one bit. He was with us for 3 years, he could at least avoid destroying our squad.
There is no truth in this but it's just a hunch I've got but I reckon Whitbread will join him at Villa.
If that's true then Lambert really has been playing us. I'm guessing he's know for ages that this was his last Norwich season, he must have known our budget situation, he has probably laid a few seeds too. Whitbread's dismissal, persuading Holt to leave. It could all be BS, but it's all a little too convenient.
lambert owes norwich city or us fans absolutely nothing! he can try and sign whoever he wants from us, that's football. he's hardly going to buy our entire team. if he comes in for three of our best players then we charge them double what they are worth and replace them with better players. i wish people would stop with this nonsense. if you don't understand how football works by now then you need to wake up - we are not a big club, especially not in terms of the premier league. we have to punch above our weight to stay afloat. bigger clubs will always be able to prise away our best assets. its how our club deal with those losses by finding the next good young player that proves how successful we are and will be the reason we stay in the top flight repeatedly.
If there was a clause in Lambert's contract stipulating he can speak to any Premier League club, it would be foolhardy for us to then reject Villa's approach. I honestly don't believe that A. there was a clause and B. IF there was, we would not of rejected the approach. Th club would deserve absolutely nothing from Villa if they went against a clause.
The good thing is if Lambert did want to start buying our players we could certainly become a richer club. Their value must of massively increased since PL survival
A nuetral here... Honestly don't know WHY Holt would want to leave Norwich? He did well, in fact VERY WELL with you guys? Given his goals tally last season, it seem's a half hearted offer IMO from West Ham. If I was Norwich ask for more.. I think he's worth more like Six Million given his age. BUT if carroll is worth silly money who knows? Really sorry to hear that you have also lost Paul Lambert. Is it a good move for him re Villa? I think not.. but... Best Wishes for next season guys. from a Stoke fan.
