"We were two hours from getting Benitez and then Real Madrid came in. We had agreed a contract," Sullivan said. "He is a top manager whatever anybody says, and I think he'd have done a wonderful job for us." Sullivan also said West Ham approached Jurgen Klopp, who joined Liverpool instead to replace Brendan Rodgers. please log in to view this image Slaven Bilic, who played 54 times for West Ham between 1996 and 1997, was appointed manager in June "We tried Klopp as well but he wouldn't come because he said he wanted a break. But I'm glad with the manager we have got," added Sullivan. West Ham are 10th in the Premier League and have lost only four league matches since former Croatia boss Bilic took over. Sullivan also heaped praise on injured midfielder Dimitri Payet - calling him "the best player I've signed in 25 years" - and said the Hammers will make Manuel Lanzini's season-long loan from Al Jazira Club a permanent deal "by February or March", two months earlier than planned. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/35189472
Not making any jusgement in what he has said but remember David sulivan is a publicist, read into that what you want.
Rafa "agreed" a contract, dont think he signed, there might have been a legal quandry had he actually put pen to paper. A quandry that would have been all over the media at the time It's in the OP actually, "agreed" is not signed, someone tell the publicist that
I wonder where we would be if Rafa never left. I can't help but believe that given the same squad "that Suarez year" we would have won the title. Of course we would be very unlikemy to have the same squad.
Well its surprising if it is true. West Ham are not exactly Real Madrid are they? Would have been a huge coo, although they've done well getting Bilic tbf.
Nah, at least LvG has bought some decent players. Rafa would sell their best player and buy 7 or 8 squad fillers with the money
