Hi all, I'm coming down to see the game tomorrow but I couldn't get a parking space as they are all sold out so I thought I'd ask your expert advice as to where I could park which is relatively near to the stadium. Are there any good NCP car parks anyone could recommend? Any information will be gratefully received as I have no idea how to get anywhere except for the stadium. Cheers
Not necessarily the best place but I have a longish journey similar to yours and normally park in West Quay that leaves a reasonable walk t stretch our legs, up Above Bar, across the park to Six dials (is it still called that?) past where Kingsland Square was, tell the grandkids how we used to shop there, underpass and that mean street leading up to the gasometer perfect setting, I feel, for a Stadium (much prefer this route to the anonymous route from Edwin Jones. fall into step with our other fans on the way.....it's heaven to me. Have a great day our Cardiff Saint
I thought this was a reference to West Ham's bus-parking ball-hoofing style of football! You're better off asking someone who lives locally but last match I went to I parked in the multi-storey in Grosvenor Place which is about 15 - 20 minutes walk from St. Mary's and there were loads of spaces. Think it cost £5 for the day.
I park on a road near St Deny's train station which is around 20 minutes walk. It's really good because you don't get stuck in traffic afterwards.
Virtually all the businesses in the industrial estate in front of the stadium sell off their car parking before the match from between £5-8, although you will need to turn up at least an hour before kick-off. Bit of a rip-off but worth bearing in mind.
I usually park up outside the Gordon Arms in Portswood, pop in for a pint then walk the 15-odd mins down the hill to the ground. Free on-street parking and ideal if you're getting back on the motorway after the game as it's straight onto the avenue & you don't have to sit through all the city centre traffic...
Thank you all for the advice, can't wait for tomorrow, it'll be my first visit to st Mary's this year
If you cross over the Itchen Bridge there's free parking in Woolston, on Oak Bank Rd. It says free for two hours only but I've left the car there a few times and never got a ticket, same with other supporters I spoke to. And if you don't want to gamble and get there in plenty of time, there's also pay and display. It will take you about 30 minutes to walk to the stadium from here though. Easy to get out after the match if you're travelling East, I imagine it's just as easy going the other way though.
^^^^ This, but the car park adjacent to the Itchen Bridge is 5hrs free parking. You need to be there by 12.30. Still The Bridge Inn is right there also.
A short walk from the car will undoubtably result getting caught in the typical 3 hour post match gridlock! A 20 minute walk is a neccesity if you want to get home on the same day of the match.
Whichever way you go try to come into the City down the M3 or J5 of M27 asnd leave the same way. They have closed the roundabout at the M271 in Redbridge off Junction 3 for the weekend. It will be total gridlock trying to enter/exit the city that way, it was taking my drivers an hour to get to Eastleigh this afternoon.
I wish I'd seen your post before I set off yesterday - took me four hours to drive 50 miles to the city due to these roadworks; missed the first ten minutes as a result :/
