Hope he goes there or Villa as personally I don't want him at the club. Our top target has to be Steven Fletcher, at first I was not convinced by the lad but after watching him more and more he is exactly what we need playing upfront by himself with Sess roaming off him and two wingers with pace who can put in a decent delivery. I said it yesterday and will say it again Fletcher, Agbonlahor and Guidetti on loan are the three we should be going for, get them three and we won't struggle for goals.
I think Fletch & Guidetti are the 2 to focus on. I do like Gabby, but I don't see him coming, especially with a new gaffer (a very good one) at Villa. That still leaves us needing one more for cover, assuming Whickham is loaned out. I really feel we should move for Peter Whittingham from Cardiff for the right.
When you weigh it up Yakubu for 1m is a better deal than Holt for 4-5m. Fletcher is still the one im hoping for
John Guidetti, plays for Man City but has been on loan at Feyenoord and MoN has been over to watch him. 20 goals and 8 assists in the 23 league games he played for the club
SUNDERLAND are hoping Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert’s interest in Grant Holt will help speed up Gabriel Agbonlahor’s arrival at the Stadium of Light. Newly-appointed Lambert is poised to return to former club Norwich City, hoping to take the big wantaway frontman with him to Villa Park. And if he succeeds, that should pave the way for the quick sale of Agbonlahor, with Sunderland at the front of the queue. Holt was the surprise success story of the Premier League’s strikers last season, scoring 17 goals in 38 appearances, having started the campaign with many doubting the 31-year-old – who had played all his football at a lower level – would be able to hack it in the top flight. In the end, he proved one of the league’s most successful strikers and Lambert sees him as the perfect foil for former Black Cat Darren Bent. Bent’s all-time favourite strike partner was Kenwyne Jones, during their time together at the Stadium of Light, and Lambert sees the burly Holt as just the sort of forward who could offer the physical presence which could bring the best out of Bent. Holt has submitted a transfer request and seems destined to leave Carrow Road this summer but Lambert will need all his skills of negotiation if he is to succeed in turning the striker into a Villan. Norwich, still smarting about the controversial nature of Lambert’s departure, will be reluctant to sell to the Scot. And Lambert already faces competition from West Ham, with Sam Allardyce tabling a £4m bid. If Villa are to succeed, they are likely to have to make a bid Norwich will struggle to refuse. That means owner Randy Lerner having to dig deep. And, with the American already on a cost-cutting drive, that would all but guarantee Agbonlahor’s sale being a necessary part of any successful move for Holt. Sunderland will hope that puts them in the driving seat. Although O’Neill left Villa in acrimonious circumstances, he has a great relationship with Lambert, who revealed last season he still calls his former Celtic boss “gaffer”. O’Neill is also credited with bringing the very best out of the 25-year-old Agbonlahor, who at one stage was rated in the same bracket as former team-mate Ashley Young but has failed to fulfil his potential in the last couple of seasons. Agbonlahor scored only five goals in 32 appearances in 2011/12, having previously been a player who regularly scored double figures. And the forward, who started his career at Villa as a trainee, is likely to welcome a reunion with his former boss. Sunderland have settled themselves in for the long haul in their pursuit of Agbonlahor but will watch closely the events of the next few days, with the likelihood being that any successful move by Villa for Holt will hasten Agbonlahor’s departure.
Iwantahor is not and never has been a prolific goalscorer, so with him and Fletcher, if that is what we end up with... Better than what we have but IMHO we are mid-table downwards next season
I think a partnership of Agbonlahor and Fletcher wiould be quiote good personally. Flletcher is a great targetman and works his bollocks off for the team. Agbonlahor was on the verge of Englands first team under Marty but has lost his way since he left. Maybe MoN could get him back to that form. Fletcher is a good 10 to 15 goals a season and so is Agbonlahor. Thats potentially 30 goals from the forwards. If we are interested in the likes of McGeady and Johnston then there are goals there too and I think Jimmy will shine next year even more so the goals will be well spread and have real pace and direction. A defense, midfiled and forward line that reads like this would be immense imo. All that is needed is a decent left back and the jobs a good'n. Mignolet Bardsley, O'Shea, Brown, Left back Johnston, Diame, McGeady, McClean Fletcher, Agbonlahor
McGeady or Johnson not both for me don't think 3 wingers in a 4 man midfield would work. Don't think Johnson is realistic at all. Think Gabby n Fletcher could be a great pairing. Can't see agbonlahor leaving Villa and if he did it would be wba or stoke to be near his 8 kids
Both McGeady and Johnston can operate centrally or out wide and have done so for club and country. Both can play either flank as well. Both have pace and both are creative. With Diame sitting behind that middle 3 and those tow up top, we'd score a shed load of goals imo and be thoroughly entertained.
