Peterbrough Evening Telegraph West Ham ask after Posh ace Craig Mackail-Smith West Ham have made an enquiry about Craig Mackail-Smith. By Alan Swann Published on Wednesday 22 June 2011 05:13 CHAMPIONSHIP title favourites West Ham United are not interested in signing Posh goalkeeper Joe Lewis, but they have made an enquiry about star striker Craig Mackail-Smith. Lewis was linked with a move to Upton Park in several national newspapers yesterday as a replacement for England keeper Robert Green. But Posh director of football Barry Fry insists the only contact heâs had from West Ham involved a conversation about Mackail-Smith. Mackail-Smith is today expected to reject a transfer to a Premier League club. West Ham have yet to make a formal bid for the 27 year-old. Fry said: âOne Premier League club who have spoken to Craig set him a deadline of today to make his mind up, but he will not be going there. âItâs not a question of money, itâs a couple of other things that heâs not happy about. âCraig is right not to rush into anything because there is still plenty of interest in him. âWest Ham have not spoken to me about Joe Lewis, but they did ask me what we wanted for Craig. âThey have not made a bid as yet, but they are having a serious go at getting back into the Premier League straight away.â Mackail-Smith has also been linked with Everton, QPR, Norwich and Swansea as well as a host of Championship clubs. Posh are understood to want in the region of £3 million for him.Fry did receive some good news concerning goalkeeper Paul Jones yesterday thanks to a chance face-to-face encounter while watching the tennis at Wimbledon. âI bumped into Paul Jonesâ father,â Fry added. âAnd he told me that Paul would be signing for us when he returns from holiday.â Jones played for Posh in the League One play-off final win against Huddersfield while on loan from Exeter City. He is now a free agent, but Championship rivals Barnsley have also shown an interest in him. Lewis is expected to miss much of pre-season training because of a fractured kneecap sustained in the play-off semi-final at MK Dons last month. http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport....mit h_1_2795448
