Just been looking at their comparable fortunes over the last 10 games this season and whilst West Ham got off to a 'flyer' with some easy wins (their only win of note was against Chelsea!!), they have also fallen on harder times of late if you discount the 'Clattenburg' fiasco, have 1 win and 2 draws in 10 games. so whlst things are quite grim for us with our recent results, there are several teams who are in a more perilous position!!!
There are plenty of teams not doing well. It just depends on who the press fancy highlighting as having a bad run, or are "in crisis" or "free fall". I maybe wrong but at the end of our 10 game unbeaten run we were 10 points above relegation? Now after our "free fall" of 6 games we are still 7 clear.
Absolutely. I only used West Ham as a comparison, as in the first few weeks, they were esconced in the top half of the league. Wigan and Fulham are also in the mix.
I think it will be a long season and some games will be vital. next Tuesday watch Villa vs Newcastle for example. Our next massive one is at Koo Pee Arrgh - those games will have a huge impact. Can't get my head around Reading and think they have been lucky twice, Southampton's managerial goings on can't have helped them but time will tell.
I made exactly this point on a thread a few weks back.If you add up the points scored by the bottom six teams each week it rarely rises much above six,so the tendency is for the bottom to creep up slowly on the teams above. There are quite a few teams in the doldrumsas well as West Ham. Fulham,Villa,Wigan,Newcastle. And the "rejuvenated"QPR have only averaged just over a point a game since 'arry came.
I see what your saying but all you need is for a couple of those teams go on a run and things start to look a bit dodgy. That is all that's needed to change things.
Nice thesis CT but look at the gap narrower significantly between you and the chasing mob. Whilst we have averaged just over a point since Arry joined as you point out how many points have you averaged over the same period? Its complacency that catches you out. You need a win.
It's a bad run of fixtures, injuries and crap performances (well, two of them) all at the same time that have caught us more than anything. Hopefully it will be sorted soon.
Well no offence intended but I hope we turn you over, its long overdue. You need to focus on yourselves. Counting on other teams to continually screw up is delusional. We went 16 games without a win but are only 5 points off safety. Nothing is over yet. Having said that, sadly I think you'll stay up
No offence taken but of course we want to keep our good recent record going at LR next month. As you say, nothing is over yet and I think we will both know a lot more by the end of next month.
That is the big point in my eyes. 6 games and only taking 1 point has only left us 3pts nearer to 18th. For me (and I have said this on here before), whether we have a good weekend or not is not necessarily dependant on our result. We have built up a gap to the rlelgation places and any weekend where that gap is either maintained or extended is a good weekend for us.
Choosing stats seelectively you can prove most things. In this case it is the last six games we are looking at.However if we widen that to the last eight, the measure more generally used for current form tables,it looks like this: Reading 10 QPR 9 Fulham 8 WBA 8 Norwich 7 Villa 6 Wigan 5 West Ham 5 Newcastle 4
