Always good to beat these lot. Hard to believe they thrashed Spurs at WHL on that showing but it's never an easy place to go to.

Jose must stick with the 4-3-3. We look a proper team with that formation and it suits everybody well.

0-3 to us after 82 mins

    Lamps gets his second!

it is more like Rambo + Mikel + Lamps - constantly switching to make 2 defensive mids and pushing one up!!

still think Mikel + Lamps would be disaster.

Lamps would be good when used sparingly and with proper backup, still was static on numerous occasions

Call me deluded, but lamps should only be used every other week with good backup support..

Lamps did little to nothing defensively and had his first tackle in the 91st minute.

if we had Mata over Lamps today?

I know that there is an obvious dislike for Lamps from you Stan, but give the guy his due today, got the goals to win us the match. Change of formation was brilliant from Jose, back to basics

Best performance in a long while, 4-3-3 is a better option for away games IMO. Just a bit harder to break down but still with enough quality to win the game.

Lampard will probably get MOTM for his 2 goals but i thought Oscar was sublime. In fact, just for a bit of fun

    Cech - 6
    Iva - 7
    Cahill - 6
    JT - 6
    Azpi - 8
    Mikel - 8
    Rami - 7
    Lampard - 8
    Hazard - 7
    Oscar - 9
    Eto'o - 8

Throughout his career he's always excelled in a 4-3-3 but been ineffective in 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 type formations. We had the perfect balance. Mikel sitting and Lampard's superb passing ability with Ramires' incisive runs and power.

So long as we play 4-3-3 there's a place for Lampard, if we don't I'm not sure there is.

4-3-3 certainly looks like the more suitable formation for the players we have. Also stops people using the god awful word pivot <laugh>

can some one discuss Mata over Lamps in this new formation, given Lamps defensive ineffectiveness?

    I don't dislike Lamps Mate!

He is a legend and will always have my respect, however need to look at his ineffectiveness over the past few weeks

Easy for lamps to score against West ham.

Let's reserve judgement until it has worked for a few games against better opposition.

And surely it means no central no 10 too

Agree with everything before me. However, just an observation. We looked pedestrian and sluggish for a long period. We don't seem to have any power or athleticism apart from Ramires. West Ham were the most inept team I have seen us play, so not carried away. Lamps played well, but then who wouldn't ?? I honestly believe we will win more under Jose, but play better football under Rafa. 4 3 3 suits our starting line up best, but that wasn't our best starting line up.

Good result but it has to be said it was against a team playing without a recognised forward. Southampton will be an interesting test for us next week; still think it will be a case of trying to stick close to the Gooners until the next window.
