How come they are getting the 2nd biggest crowds in England now ? They’ve never historically been that well supported as far as I’m aware, is it tourists or people moving near Stratford post olympics ?
London innit? Probably giving away a load of tickets and luring kids from their local team (Leyton Orient) to the riches and the ****y glamour of the Premier League
They've got a massive support. I live amongst them in Essex and 95% of people I know support them. Even the Southend and Colchester fans I know support West Ham. They are the team for this area. You see the occasional Arsenal or Spurs shirt, and I know three Millwall supporters, but that's it. The new ground has meant they can fit more in and European football recently has increased people's appetite for it. The ones that have been going years are ultra nostalgic for Upton Park though and aren't that keen on the johnny-come-latelies.
It's cheap tickets in a soulless bowl. Or it could be the charismatic presence and scintillating football which are both always a part of Moyes' presence.
We've never seen the dark underbelly of the west ham hooligans, maybe if they make 27 films about them, we may start to understand the passion and following they have and see why they have big crowds.
