I know its a bit of an obvious statement, but we really must win against West Brom today. Looking at the remaining fixtures for most of the relegation threatened clubs you would expect Newcastle (despite how bad they have been this season) today to beat a pitiful and pathetic QPR and Sunderland are capable with DiCanio motivational factor of beating Southampton. Wigan play next week away at Arsenal in a match on paper that you would expect them to lose. However, after winning the FA cup match they will have got a huge boost to morale and its just as well that Arsenal have still not clinched their European spot. I wouldn't want us to have to go into the last game against Man City having to win against them, as our record since returning to Premiership against them is appalling! Ironically, despite Hughton's efforts to improve us defensively we have one of the worst goal differences in the league and cannot rely on our goal difference to bail us out. Hughton might have tightened up the defence, but at the expense of not scoring enough goals. I don't believe for one second that our team were not good enough to have been safe ages ago this season, afterall most of the players are the same as the team who played so well last season. I think the problem is down to Hughton's more defensive formation which has limited our scoring chances for the strikers. Cannot understand why Hughton bought Becchio only to leave him on the bench when we are desperate to score and win games. No doubt he will probably surprise us today by bringing in Becchio.
Said it once will say it again. Our goal difference is down to our lack of goals scored, not the conceded. None the less it isn't good and we need to win, but a draw wouldn't be the end of the world!
I want a win tonight so I can get to sleep without all of these permutations and combinations going around in my head!
Tonight? actually, if Man City play as they did yesterday, when we play them next Sunday, i can see us getting something from that game. but i wouldn't rely on them being that lacklustre again.
