Newcastle fans have been pretty down on themselves in recent times, enduring an abysmal run of form in 2014, prompting fans to protest against manager Alan Pardew in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Hull City.

Now a whole load of them will have suffered a false dawn after a howler from the producers of the club’s official match programmes.

One programme for the Hull match included a ‘golden ticket’, which entitled the winner to the opportunity to go backstage at a game and win a match-worn shirt from one of the players.

But the club were inundated with ‘prize winners’ due to the fact they had printed a picture to illustrate what the golden ticket looked like in the programme, confusing thousands of the Toon Army and leading them to think they had all won.

Programme editor Anthony Marshall tweeted in a bid to clear up the confusion after a lot of Geordies were left even more disappointed than they were already with the club rooted to the bottom of the Premier League.

 

It would have made a much more entertaining Charlie and the Chocolate Factory if he told half of them to **** off at the start because their golden tickets were just examples...
