On the news and tv we keep hearing that England played really well, some saying we should have won it and others saying it looks good for the rest of the Eu cup. Now I will admit that at a few times we done a couple of good moves but surely any honest person could see we lacked vision and predictably after going ahead, fell back and allowed France to come on to us. Many will rightly say we have to play to our strengths and that is stopping the other teams scoring and trying to nick a goal on the break (sound familiar?) But any neutral could see the French were the better team. I was relieved to hear the final whistle while we still had a point and I didn't think we were very good!
Well, I have to admit that France looked at bit more fluent & creative, but we expected that. I thought we were superb defensively, I mean really top draw, France had a lot of shots, but many were from range. There were a couple of super passes from Welbeck, that could (should in Milners case) have led to goals, and there was a decent amount of bite, if not so much creativity, in midfield. Overall I was satisfied, and will go into the Sweden game a lot more optimistic, I'd have taken a draw before kick off, but I genuinely thought we were gonna nick it, the lads did well for me. My only real disappointment was bringing on Defoe, I have no problem with Defoe, and like him as a player, but I thought we looked a threat getting balls into the box, and that Carroll may have been a smarter move.
We let them back in the game for long periods, yes we defended well, however, that's because we had to, we sat back. For the life of me, why we did not see Downing for Milner at ant point of the game, is bloody beyond me. And yes I also agree, I would have liked to see Carroll in a 4-4-2 formation. .....I would have taken a point, but we sat back and therefore, they deserved their draw.
its what i expected we will go far but there is little flair there now maybe when we conect it will look better
I was pretty satisfied to be honest. We have no Nasri, Ribery etc type player (Rooney apart) playing and therefore you have to play to your strengths. We had the best chance to score a 2nd (Milner) and apart from a couple of headers France were restricted to long shots. Was an interested spectator rather than excited but did not find it boring. We have to build on it though.
One of the better games ive seen England play in a while tbf and that is because of one massive reason NO GARETH 'S**THEAD C**TWORTHY W**K' BARRY
Agree with all of this. Wasn't hopeful before the game but was never really worried by the French who are allegedly the top team in this group. Not brilliant but now confident of getting past the group stages.
