We're doing alright, aren't we?

With a little over a third of the season gone now,I look at the league table and feel quite optimistic about our prospects this season. A mere 4 points off the leaders, currently unbeaten in 9 games, not always playing well but still managing to grind out results makes me feel this could turn out to be a successful first attempt at leaving non - league football behind us. As the last few seasons have shown, we weren't a particularly good 2nd division team but we are a half decent Conference outfit, and as we haven't peaked too soon, (can anyone seriously see City staying at the top of league 1 all season? )the remainder of the season lends itself to optimism. Other teams around us are slipping up now, Barnet only drew yesterday, Torquay let in 4, so is it so unlikely that Rovers cant capitalize and maintain this unbeaten run for some considerable time? (I really hope I haven't just delivered the kiss of death to the team and apologise to everyone in advance if our form slumps now! )

I think we'll be top quite soon. We've been the form team for a while and the likes of Barnet will drop points over the next four or five games because they've got a tough run of games coming up.DC's proving to be a really good manager and we've got a team who are playing for the shirt again. It's great. I'm really enjoying it.

Good to see a really positive view on things, because I still get the feeling that there is a lot of negativity around despite our unbeaten run.

FGR next Saturday will be a great test. Will we keep our unbeaten home record? A win will send a massive message to the top teams around us.

I think defensively we are ok. But we just aint scoring enough. We are not taking our chances when they come. Just aint ruthless enough. Table looks good but performances are lacking that creative spark. I wont complain though because if table dont lie!

The fact that we haven't been a prolific team since the days of Lambert and Trollop has had a long and tiring effect on the fan base and the club, I think this has had a knock on effect too.

Totally agree IMO I still think we finish around mid-table unless of course we get in a striker (who can score) and strengthen the squad in general then maybe we could finish in the play-offs the games I've been to so far have yet to convince me we are ready for promotion just yet.

So in general I'm very happy with are current run of form and are league position but I feel we must strength the squad if we want to be still in the promotion race come the end of the season. <ok>

I agree with CJS, next Sat will be a good test, tho I expect us to win......

I'd like to see Jamie White given more of a chance, but I guess DC knows best...

And I think 82ltd will be there or there abouts, but does it really matter to us ???

I think the problem stretches past the front line unfortunately.

    Lambert 30 goals
    Duffy 10+ goals
    Jo Kuffour 10+goals

    Chris Lines 10+ goals
    Jeff Hughes 10+ goals

Just between those 5 players we had 70+ goals in the team, I know Lambert made the world of difference but successful teams need that amount of goals.

    Matty Taylor 5+ goals?
    Cunninham 15+ (Not our player)
    Ellis 5+?
White (Cant even get off the bench?!)

Andy monk 10 goals (if he can play 35 + games a season)
    Stu Sinclair/Mansel (Not goal scorer's)
    Ollie Clarke 5+ goals
Martins 5+ if he's lucky (Again not our player)
Goslin (Blows hot and cold to often) 5+ goals

I think the whole attacking force will struggle to get 50+ goals between them which is worrying.

We'll definitely finish in the playoffs or better. The floodgates will happen some time, but for now I'm happy with getting decent results. Even when Lambert was here we were near the foot of the table for most of the first half of the promotion season.... I'm just enjoying the fact that we're there or thereabouts for a change... it's great!
