The way results have gone today, Liverpool on Tuesday has become a big game for us again as we still have a chance of getting fourth place. But there is something I'm wondering about: If Spuds were to draw 0-0 with Fulham, we win our next two games 1-0, we would have identical records. Does it then go down to head-to-head, and if so, would we win on away goals? Or would we need to have a play-off? (This is all dependent on Newcastle failing to win as well of course)
I've often wondered how many rules you have to go through till it comes down to alphabetical Joking aside, I think they look at goals scored (overall) after league position - then head to head records. Not 100% though.
In this scenario, goals scored would be the same, 64 each. So it would go to head-to-head, do Chelsea have advantage in that as we scored an away goal?
Its ok, I have the answer now, it would go to a play-off. http://www.premierleague.com/conten...handbooks/premier-league-handbook-2011-12.pdf on page 84. And if Chelsea and Spuds both finish outside top four we would officially share the same position (nothing at stake so no need for a play-off) but alphabetically we'd probably be put above them
Assuming that would happen, when would the play off be held? Before or after the Champions League final? Knowing the PL they would try and get us to play mid-week a few days before the final!
A sensible person would set a provisional date for after the CL final. If Chelsea win, the match can be scrubbed out and we 'share' fourth place (which would be in line with PL rules). Mind you, this is the FA we're talking about here.
Sorry but unless we beat Liverpool, we're back in the race for nothing. If we beat Liverpool I'm confident we'll go onto beat Blackburn. Had we even taken a point off Newcastle I would still have believed top 4 or even top 3 was possible but that point will prove pivotal.
If we beat Liverpool on Tuesday, we are very much in it. Newcastle have a tough game at Everton and Fulham could be a tough nut for the Spuds to crack. I think Blackburn will have been relegated by time of our match, so I think in that sense we will have the easiest fixture. And while it is still possible, it would be criminal for a team like Chelsea to not at least try for that fourth spot. Or even the more improbable third place.
Not impossible. Spurs are the biggest bottlers I've ever seen and Fulham are a potent side. It's a derby as well and last day of the season. Fulham will take 3,000 and Spurs will be nervous. Arsenal are gone now but if we beat Liverpool I believe we will get 4th. Newcastle won't beat Everton IMO. Just got to pray Fulham do the business. Bale might have to play left back now with Rose suspended and Ekotto injured which could help Fulham. Have to beat Liverpool on Tuesday though, Blackburn will be walk in the park compared to Tuesday. It's a chance for the likes of Essien, Sturridge, Torres and Malouda to prove they are worth a place
Not just him Dembele and Frei (if he plays) are the ones you want to look out for. Bale will surely now have to play left back won't he?
That's what we're trying to work out - we'll have Corluka back from his loan so he could potentially play there. No doubt Harry will completely nullify as many players as possible though.
I wouldn't worry, you are still a good team and it's in your hands. P.S Are you named after Morpheus from the Matrix? If so my new hero
I don't think Arsenal are by any means secure yet. WBA away could see them lose. It could be us Spuds and Arse all on 67pts.
Yes I am named after Morpheus In my spare time, I like to get break out of handcuffs through sheer strength and fighting people on the top of trucks.
