Can I firstly say I had sunderland to win 2-1 with fletch to score first, £5 @ 55-1. So didn't know wether to cheer or laugh when we scored the third!

Onto the game, I thought it was a great win, not sure it was a deserved win though.

    Defence..

Although brown scored the OG, he is still our best CB, it's criminal that vergini got infront of him. Was a shame to see PVA injured, looked great and is looking a cracking signing. The little French guy was very composed and looks promising.

    Midfield..

Buckly tried hard, I don't think he's quite premier league quality, but a squad player who will give it all, and he done that tonight.

Catts, worked hard as usual, same for Larson.

Gomez, great goal, need him in those positions more often.

    Attack.

Fletch, 2 quality finishes, won us the game.

Wickham, still out of position IMO, needs to be alongside fletch.

    Summary..

The result was all that mattered for us. Although it did paper over a few cracks, we lack quality and speed in the side, and I hope poyet addresses that in the coming transfer windows.

Think it will be a difficult season, and survival must be the aim, any thing else with this squad is a massive massive bonus.

Great result though, haway the lads.

I agree we are short on quality and pace.

With: Giaccarini, Alvarez, Johnson and Rodwell injured and PVA off early we did well as those 5 are probably in our top 8 players.

With that in mind it was a very good win.

I hear the commentators saying "Oh Daniel Sturridge is injured" - ONE player for Liverpool and they're ****ed - we have 5 of, as you say, probably our top 8 players injured but we're just Sunderland and not good enough.

It's not a bad squad all in all - last night was a very good win all in all. OK performance and definitely created the best chances. They had only one shot on target and that wasn't the goal! In fact it was probably a cross from what I saw (haven't watched the whole game yet - was gigging last night in Shotton so only got to see the last 10 of the first half and the first 40 of the second!)

Bridcutt's pass for Fletcher's goal was very good - or is he called Bridcock?

Also - do not underestimate Gomez's finish - that was pure quality - to pass a ball into the side of the goal from 22 yards is impressive. Not a case of putting his foot through it - just a case of a little bit of quality. It's a far better (skill wise) goal than a blast from 25 yards into the top corner - might not be as aesthetically pleasing to the press but it takes more skill to place a ball there than it does to whack one as hard as you can
