http://gossip.ladyarse.com/arsenal/2013/01/11/wenger-worlds-third-best-coach-of-21st-century/ Arsene Wenger has been voted in third position by the International Institute of History and Statistics of Football in the Worldâs Best Coach of 21st Century. Manchester Unitedâs Sir Alex Ferguson tops the list with Jose Mourinho in second position. ******************************************************************** Take a bow Arsene
Capello 4th? And how the **** does Mancini get in there? List voted for by morons clearly. How Hitzfeld can be 18th I don't know. Should be much higher. Then Rehhagal who won the Euros with Greece is 21st? Then you gotta ask where the **** Jurgen Klopp, Mircea Lucescu and Luis Van Gaal are.
Rather than get sucked into another spat, I have decided to edit my original post. Arsegun, the topic refers to manager's achieving over the last 13 years. Not just the last 3 years like Herr Klopp.
My feelings are fine. Just surprised at how little you know. "poll is a bit ****" = opinion of a genius
For the first part of the 21st century, i'd have Wenger at number 1. For the current part, i'd put wenger at 9999999th, behind Klaus the FC Jahn Regensburg tea boy
Don't need to add to a poll that has a manager 3rd who hasn't won anything for the last 8 years out of 13 years. As Arsegun pointed out, a few managers weren't even on the list that deserved to be. Plus, how did Wenger get even this close to Fergie or Mourinho? He hasn't been anywhere near these two for ages.
It clearly says on the tin that it is based on 13 years, not the last 8 in AW's case or 3 years in Klopp's. I can't figure out why you fail to understand, unless it is the thought of AW being so highly regarded by his peers that sends you into a blind rage?
No blind rage. I think in the beginning he more than justified that position but since moving stadiums, he has been more preoccupied with finances than on football. This is why I want to see what he can do with a big budget (which he has) and manage like he used to in the past. Then we can see if he's still got it or not. Fair enough?
Fair enough. If it were based on the last 8 years I would have him down nearer the bottom, but looking at 13 years, it is easy to see why people like Capello are near the top.
Did he have much choice on the matter? He's had to work on a tighter budget - far tighter than that at United and Chelsea, and latterly City - and has kept the club near the top. He has more money now (though still nowhere near Chelsea or City, and still behind United) so you'd hope for more flexibility in the future and hopefully some success.
There is more to a good manager than simply winning trophies, you actually have to manage a club or team. It's a tough job when you haven't got the finances of your rivals and considering how Wenger changed the face of English football by dragging it out of the dark ages, I think he deserves to be on that list.
To manage at one club for all those 13 years must stand for something. How many other managers on the list have been at the same club for all that time and kept the club at the top of football. Only Wenger and Ferguson? There are some managers on this list who have only worked with big money to win trophies.
