http://www.express.co.uk/sport/foot...ger-Arsenal-Tottenham-derby-Pochettino-Kaboul Some really interesting comments from wenger about corners (and how we will be focusing on them in training) and on chambers and how he would give him a chance in midfield if we had more fit defenders.
He's noticed now that we're poor at corners? I suppose that means we can expect a DM in about 2019 then?
Well for the last couple of years everyone was saying that we were bad at corners and we had actually conceded fewer goals from corners than any of the top 6.
I didn't read the article. I auto-assumed Wenger was talking about our offensive capabilities at corners. Agreed, our defending of corners seems sound enough. Attacking-wise, I'd rather we had a goal kick than a corner.
He was talking about offensive corners. Thought I'd mention it as fans have been saying the same thing and it's always nice when the manager is in agreement!
Ah - sorry, I get so irritated when every game some has been commentator starts spouting about "Zonal marking". Nearly every team uses some form of zonal marking and I defy anyone to know exactly how many Arsenal have assigned to a zone and how many are free compared to other teams. Offensively, I am not sure what the statistics are, but I don't think we have the numbers of big men to score from corners as a matter of course. I think the chances of scoring from corners are fantastically low overall anyway - something like 1 or 2 out of a 100 perhaps. Anyway, practice will help, I am sure. I used to notice that the BFG used to go near post for a flick on, but we don't seem to do that any more, not sure why.
