With the talk of RVP dominating still and his percieved "greed" there has been another debate about what motivates players are where there loyalty lies. We don't offer the top "player" wages in England (by some way) and Wenger last week came out with the following statement "I could move to clubs for more than 10 times [the amount of money] but I didn't do it," he told De Telegraaf. "[I've had] 16 years at Arsenal and I stay here because of my philosophy and vision. "Money is not my motivation and that's also the way for [Johan] Cruyff at Ajax and [Wim] Jansen at Feyenoord." So this is the manager that up until yesterday was the top earner in England ahead of Alex Ferguson? Sure money might be great in Spain, Italy or head of a Country but they also fire a whole lot more quickly. Wenger has one of the sweetest jobs in world football earning what he does with such protection. I'm grateful for alot of what he's done but does it not seem hypocritical that he and the club believe in a democracy when it comes to wages yet he's paid so handsomely for 7 barren years (until Mancini's new contract he was the top Premier League manager)? Also how can the ask us the fans to pay the highest tickets prices in England (possibly in the world) with so little to show for that money? It's one thing to have a self sustaining model but why lie to the fans about our ambitions and make them pay the prices for a team wining honors and purchasing the very top players that arrive in England? So Wenger and Arsenal have lined there pockets earning at the very top of their field and the team has been treated like a cash cow and at a totally different level. Both of their philosophy's are inconsistent!!
Honestly, this kind of post is getting really tiring. I started writing a reply to point out all the holes, but I realized it would just end up in a lot of pointless ill feeling. I'm just going to say "Rubbish" and leave it at that.
Pick away...you had the time to write an actual response rather than just responding with "rubbish"!! I said top tickets "possibly" in world football...definitely top in the Premier League http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/22/premier-league-ticket-prices-2012-13 Also, how is my argument that Wenger talks about loyalty of players wrong? http://www.theweek.co.uk/football/47844/wenger-nasri-and-fabregas-destroyed-my-plans-arsenal Wenger's made specific reference to Nasri and Clichy who wouldn't sign new deals and went on to earn huge pay packets at Man City...this is while he was the top paid manager in England. A forum is for debate argue against my point rather than say it's "tiring" ......I don't know anyone who's written a similar article to mine
There have been numerous posts about ticket prices. If you read any of them, or even looked at prices yourself, then you will see that you could go and watch Arsenal for cheaper than a lot of other clubs, including Liverpool, Tottenham, Chelsea etc.
A lot of people forget we've only had two price rises since we moved from Highbury and one of those is because the Tory ****s put VAT up to 20%
Sorry - You are quite correct. Martin Samuels says it's true, so it must be. I say 'pah' to the facts and trust the tabloid press to tell me what's true and what isn't.
Aye - The Arsenal website is lying too. I just don't understand why the club make up that price for the vast majority of seats in the lower section for most games.
What level of membership are you.If you're silver did you get an e-mail about cheaper tickets for next season? The one thing that does piss me off is the categorising of matches into "A" & "B".I don't see why i should pay more for a seat because of the opposition.I buy a ticket to watch Arsenal not who we are playing
Red member, but generally go on mates spare season ticket or company club level tickets whenever I want. It's always been that way though (A & B), well certainly since the mid 80's when I started going. Most other clubs seem to have 3 levels of tickets which is even more confusing. I guess it's because the cat A games will always sell out, whereas the B ones are less popular. But, what did the email say?
I've deleted the ****er now but basically it said they're introducing cat "C" games this season which will be cheaper than last season's cat "B".They are also susposed to be introducing a loyalty scheme where you will get cheaper tickets based on the number of games you attend. The ticket x is also meant to be improving.I'm still waiting for 2012/13 ticket prices to appear on the website
Joined as a red member the other week, but still have not any of things that was advertised when signing up, things like the 'welcome pack' and some book, and also the card. Does the club only give those when the season starts?
You usually get the gifts in eptember It sounds stupid but being a member of an official supporters club it's pointless being an Arsenal member
For me it's good, though. You get access to Arsenal live for a start. Will watch all the pre-season games now.
I really hate this kind of argument, but seeing as you insist. I don't believe Wengers actual salary has been disclosed. It is reported to be 7 million/year, but that is just a guess. He also hasn't always been the best paid manager nor is he, as you point out, right now. I don't know why you rule out managing abroad as not a "legitimate" move for him or how it makes him a hypocrite. Wenger is perfectly capable of managing internationally and has done so. Turning down managing Real madrid or Brazil, who would pay him more, is a perfectly legitimate demonstration of loyalty and honoring his contract for me. I don't see why it has to be an english club that offers the cash.
