The 'Tigers History' thread has raised one or two posts which reveal where each was on that fateful day. I was at home, here in Norfolk, pacing up and down, swigging cold beer. When Deano's volley went in, I got tears in my eyes, then went out with my dog and sang my head off in the woods. Where were you and what are your memories? Were you at Wembley; at home; overseas; wherever.....
I was at Wembers in what really was preposterous heat and although it'll go down as one of my life highlights and I'd never swap it for the world, part of me does wish I could also have been in a pub in Hull to enjoy the local celebrations. Oh to be two places at once.
Section 118 near corner flag just below the Club Wembley seats - stayed in Room 118 at Watford Travel Lodge for the weekend. Destined to be?
I was celebrating City's promotion the previous day. I'm a bit concerned that you're a City fan who not only wasn't at the game but who can't remember the biggest date in the club's history...
I'll never forget! We didn't have tickets for Wembley so we decided we wanted to travel up to Hull to watch the game in the pub so we could be around other City fans in the same boat. The same day as the final, Beverley races had a race-day and had plastered all over the website that they were catering for City fans and they had laid on a special lounge to watch the game with big screen TV's etc etc. We got to the races at about 2.15pm and after grabbing a drink and watching a race we made our way round to the 'special' lounge to be greated with 4 14inch box style tv's mounted on a shelf, with a reception so bad that they couldnt have the sound on because of the crackilng and the picture was so fussy you couldnt really see what was going on!! I think there must have been about 150 of us crammed into that room with the same feeling of bewilderment at our choice of venue but needless to say we managed to watch the game, the whole place went mad when deano scored the winner and I won £170 on the nags. Obviously not the same as being there, but the whole day was an experience I will never forget!
On the 25th, i had a splitting headache after a night of over celebration, and enduring the long distance trip back to Hull from King's Cross with all the other plebs, who hadn't booked a seat either. Pretty bad, but the Leeds Donny result that day made up for it. If it helps, I was dancing on the tables in all the bars in Camden Market on the 23rd and we hadn't even done anything yet. Top weekend.
Just woke up from my 12 hour night shift, managed to watch about 20 minutes of the 2nd half before having to go back to work and managed to watch a re-run of it at about 11pm!
I was torn between going to Wembley or not. Half of me said it could be one of the best days of my life, but after all the build-up and anticipation the other part of me said it could be an absolute nightmare. In the end I chickened out and watched it at a pub in Nottingham and I've been kicking myself ever since.
Stayed at Premier Inn Watford. Sat with my lad and his mate near the top of the stand/side which had the Tigers supporters end to our left. Loved the walk from the station to Wembley, getting in the pubs as we walked, and the Banter with Bristol lads/lasses. That day still pops up in dreams for no particular reason, other than it must have had a massive effect on me. Also enjoyed getting to the KC early to Q for the tickets, sitting with a coffee flask, sarnies on a fishing chair, and chatting to other people I knew or didn't know. The whole team and Pearson/Brownie gave us that day at Wembley and I will always owe it to them all. It made all the bad days at BP well worth it.
Was having a day out in North London. Drove down, watched match, drove back. Good celebrations in the service stations.
Sorry but it was because the result mattered so much to me that if we had lost the last place I wanted to be was in ******* London.
I was at Wemberlee. Can't for the life of me remember where I stayed. One of my mates had helpfully printed out a tube map - shame he only had a black and white printer so you couldn't tell which line was which. Left the hotel and was looking for the nearest train/tube station, so another mate decided to ask a bloke for directions. He didn't notice that the bloke he asked had sunglasses on and was holding a white stick. After the match we ended up in a lap dancing bar in Soho. I was shocked that the dancers didn't know that we'd just won the play-off final. Great day, great day
