Over 18,000 Peterborough United supporters will make the trip to Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon as The Posh face Chesterfield in the final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy (2pm).

Darren Ferguson's men go into the game as favourites, but the Spireites are flying high in League Two and were 1-0 winners in their last fixture. Chesterfield have sold over 14,500 tickets for the final.

    TEAM NEWS

Posh are sweating on the fitness of captain Tommy Rowe who missed Tuesday night's 3-1 defeat at Preston North End with a muscle injury. Manager Ferguson is confident that the midfielder will be fit. Posh are without Nicky Ajose, Conor Washington, Ben Nugent and Jack Baldwin who are all cup-tied. Lloyd Isgrove is eligible to play, as is Josh McQuoid.

Team selection for Chesterfield will be a tricky one for boss Paul Cook with players in-form and staking a claim for a spot in the starting line-up in the win over Morecambe. Gary Roberts was on the bench in mid-week, but it is likely he will return to the team. Jay O'Shea is expected to start in midfield.

    THOUGHTS FROM INSIDE THE CAMP

'Playing at Wembley is a great tool for me with regards to the rest of the season. The players will love the experience of playing at Wembley and they will want to return there later in the season for the League One play-off final.

'Obviously we need to win to make the day extra special. We couldn’t fail to get a lift from parading around Wembley after the game with the trophy in our hands. It’s a big day for the whole city as well. It looks like we will be taking about 20,000 fans with us which is a great effort.

'There has been a lot of disappointment around the place because of our form this season and we take responsibility for that, but winning this Trophy would make up for some of that.

'We are not going into the game in ideal form, but winning this competition has been one of our two main aims this season and we have treated the matches with a lot of respect as a result - and now we are in the final we want to win it. All our focus is now on this game.

'It certainly won’t be easy as Chesterfield are a very good side. It doesn’t mean a thing that they are in League Two because in eight games time they will probably be a League One side. They play an expansive style of football like we do so it should be a very good game, but we need to back ourselves to play to the best of our ability and if we do that we will have a great chance of winning,' Posh boss Darren Ferguson said.

    OPPOSITION VIEW

'When you’re a manager and you have to leave people off the bench that you really care about it is not good, especially at Wembley.

“I wish I could give up something myself to enable those lads to be there. Unfortunately, the hard part with football and management sometimes, you’ve got to make those decisions.

“I can guarantee it’s going to be the worst decision of my managerial career because I don’t want to leave anyone out,' Chesterfield boss Paul Cook said.

Wembley is a great day out, to be savoured <magic>

Great memories from a few years back, when Pompey played there five times within a few seasons, before it all went "Pete Tong" for us, with our succession of dodgy foreign owners ruining our club <grr>

Still, we won today, so all is well in the world :emoticon-0103-cool:
