No hurdling at Sandown tomorrow, but this is a cracking good event in the making - the Welsh Champion Hurdle which includes several exciting runners.
Oscara Dara impressed when winning a Listed handicap at Kempton over this trip last month, and will not have a problem in heavy ground. With top weight though I can see him being beaten by a horse near the bottom of the weights. Connections seem to fancy him as a World Hurdle hope as he holds an entry still so will need to win this if he’s gonna be taken seriously for that. .
Tanerko Emery is in good recent form particularly on heavy ground, although will need to prove himself up at this trip having won three times over 2m-2m1f. With his dam a 2m3f winner, though, there is reason to be optimistic he’ll stay. Trainer seems to think the trip won’t be a problem so I’ll take that. He holds an entry at Cheltenham.
The Romford Pele is an interesting runner that proved himself over these conditions and has been put away for this since. The only time this horse has finished outside the first 2 was in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham - with all the hype surrounding the new one it’s interesting to note he wasn’t that far behind that one in that race. He’s 6lb wrong here at the weights but Patrick Corbett takes off 7lb so he is basically in at the right end. Holds an entry at Cheltenham.
Balder Success beat the talented, Hollow Tree (in here too), at Haydock two outings ago, though he was very disappointing in his last race. It was reported he lost a shoe in that race but I’m not convinced he wants 2m 5f. He holds an entry at Cheltenham but just not sure over him.. His stable mate Medinas will certainly stay after running 3 miles in his last race but I think this one isn’t good enough to win this. Interesting though its Wayne Hutchinson’s only ride of the day!.
Of the others El Dancer may have each way claims in this ground but not for me.
In conclusion I’ll plum for Tanerko Emery to win this. Not much value in the price and ok not the most original selection but he’s the one for me. Seems to relish heavy ground and he got up the hill well at Sandown two starts ago and that takes some getting there.. Sizeable each way bet for me and hope to get 4s or bigger in the morning…. .
Would be great to hear your views on the winner and any bets going on…

    Nice write up CaptainPops...<ok>

I havnt really looked at the race with in any great depth but when i did look at it i did fancy the Alan King runner Medinas... Though we seem to have a difference of opinion on him...!!!

Good luck with Tanerko as i do think he can win this, but i havnt had a bet on any of em yet, and i may change my mind come the off...<laugh><laugh>

I actually like it when a decent race is given its own thread. Easy to compare opinions.
BALDER SUCCES was a huge disappointment fir me at Ascot but the ground was dreadful and I am prepared to give him another chance.

It was certainly a good move making the race a limited handicap - the size of the field testifies to that.

For what it's worth, I think weight will stop Oscara Dara. I expect him to go close but be just undone by something carrying at least a stone less, but which one? Tanerko Emery is the obvious choice given his connections and his position in the weights (he's bottom of those in the handicap). Not sure he appeals massively at the prices though.

It might pay to follow Pricewise and take a chance on The Romford Pele, who's capable pillot takes off 7lbs, putting him back the right side of his handicap mark.

Fascinating race, but that one that probably appeals more to the bookie than the punter. Good luck if you're playing.

Weight stops trains, but today it won't stop Oscara Dara from following up. The race looks ideal, he has more in hand on my views and I think Tanerko is being backed because of owner rather than real form. I agree with pricewise that Romford Pele could be the main danger and will have a saver on him.

I am confident that Oscara will win, confident I tell you.
