Anyone else going ? You can't beat the traditional curtain raiser to our season. Welling hike their prices 200% on the day, you get to have a pre match p1ss up the wall behind the Main Stand (also known as the 'toilets'), and Luzon has said the whole first team squad will be getting a run out. All 8 of them
Used to be more exciting than Cup Final Day when I was a kid and we couldn't afford to go to The Valley. I remember one year, possibly 2003, when Campbell Ryce played and I wrongly assumed he was going to be amazing for us. Probably haven't been now since about 2006. Would rather donate to Welling than actually go and watch this.
Never usually bother with friendlies being honest, but think I'll walk down to the dulwich game this summer.
Just read on facebook this will be the first time we will share the gate money. Poor from us to be fair - doesn't make much difference to us.
I was going to go; but then something better came up. So going with that instead. I'm thinking I'm not going to be doing many away games and pre-season friendlies this season. I've done most of them. Think that Hull away will be the only one, only as it was given a 5/5 rating last season for best club to visit.
That's what happens when you have foreign owners who do not understand tradition and look at everything on a money basis.... as you say Super... very bad form
That game sets Welling up for the next season. Pretty sure this'll end up increasing ticket prices in the long term to compensate.
Very generous of us as a club. Last time I was in the UK, I noticed a tendancy of pay and display car parks to want the car registration on the ticket, presumably to prevent people giving their left over minutes THAT THEY HAD PAID FOR being given to someone else. A mean, petty gesture which suggests the money grubbing policies of Thatchers Britain have taken root and are doing nicely. Our decisión to ask for a share of the gate money against non league neighbours is in the same miserly line. If I was a Welling fan, I think I'd be asking if they could persuade Palace or Brighton to come next year. Seriously, how much are we going to gain with this, and in Exchange for how much ill will?
It's also something the club will neglect to answer, but something they need to explain. Personally, if this is going to be an ongoing thing then I hope Welling look for a more generous club, not hell bent on counting the pennies and profiting the pounds. And I hope they find them.
It's underway gents ! 0-1 thanks to a Ahearne-Grant strike. Have three well disguised recruits made there way onto the team sheet at the last minute ??
I'm certainly not surprised by this news, but it stills sickens me to the pit of my stomach. I'll make it a priority to get down to Welling this season and put a few shillings in their coffers.
£15 to get in yesterday with £9 for kids. £2.50 for a (poor) programme. A slight rip off as Luzon changed the entire team at half time, and brought on a number of youngsters that even AHLL and FHB and the errant dickplumb might have struggled to identify. The first 45 mins with our near full strength team saw us with 80% possession, but with Diarra playing centre half and Wiggins in midfield, it was further proof that our squad is paper thin. Is KAG really going to be our 4th striking option this season FFS ?
Nick, In the first half team there was one of last season's U18 (Charles-Cook) who is a central midfielder, started last season's with the U18's as a Def Mid but asked to be moved to a more attacking role as his engine also enabled him to cover the defensive work (of a CM) with ease from a starting position higher up the pitch ..... some months ago I stated that we risked losing a good young pro through 'penny pinching' of first year pro contracts ... guess who I was talking about In the second half we had Barnes and Kelly from last season's U18's.... Barnes was the U18 captain who will be (at present) cover for 4' 3" in the fizzy pop cups and on the bench for league games a good player who likes to get forward, he is a right back or wing back but not a right midfielder..... Kelly is an all action midfielder but I would not expect him to see any first team action this season. Of the rest of the youngsters, four were out on long term loan last season of which Pope, Obileye & Holmes-Dennis could see some first team action but I would guess most of the rest will be out on loan again. Except for the Harriott's who I expect to be sold in the next two weeks. The reason we had such a young team in the second half (which was basically the Dev squad) ? ...... We only have 11 first team players at the club simples
I hope KAG doesn't get too excited about his 2 goals. Joe Pigott scored a 45-minute hat-trick 2 years ago against Welling, all laid on by Kermit. He never partnered Kermit again, and was only given one more start, against Millwall, where he died on stage and that was that!
