Who's dive was worst this weekend

I'd have to go for Suarez followed by Wellbeck.

But Wellbeck deserves the cheat of the week award because of his sterling work for his country on Tuesday.

Suarez still king of the cheats in the Prem followed by Young. Wellbeck learning fast, Hazard has a lot of learning to do.
A poor show from Hazard: failed to win two good penalty shouts

Welbeck, clearly. Learning from Ashley Young.

Not really arsed what the other two do, Suarez is just a **** so you're not surprised that he'd add diving to his repertoire and Hazard is just some bloke who plays for Chelsea. Wellbeck on the other hand is an embarrassment. Why a local lad of his age would rather dive than try and score is beyond me. Him and Young, someone is telling them to do it. No wonder I don't bother spending money on watching them anymore, I'd feel robbed.

To be fair, everyone is telling their players to do it nowadays. Pretty sure after our QPR game last season (the one when Young dived from an offside position) the QPR assistant manager told the media that they advise players to go to ground under any contact in the box.

You can understand why they do it - under massive pressure to succeed, and with a much greater chance of being rewarded than punished. I'm pretty sure around 50% of dives end up with penalties and around 5% end up with a yellow card. Also, the players who get booked are the ones who are **** at it, like Suarez and Bambi at Liverpool, whilst the ones Dzeko and Young who leap three feet into the air end up getting penalties. So players learn to make stupid dives to maximise their chances.

Personally I'd prefer divers to be punished retroactively, but then Arsenal showed that will never work as long as you can use 100 video replays to prove their might have been a teeny bit of contact.

If there is contact and the player falls, it may or may not be a penalty but there should not be a yellow card. If there is no reason fir the fall ( like avoiding a huge lunge by defender or GK) then a card is deserved.

    Suarez.

Law of the land states all people called Luis Suarez that have massive teeth are massive cheats.

Rumour has it Suarez once cheated in a game of connect 4 with his wife. Shocking.

Welbeck for me, that dive was just embarrasing to watch and hopefully Fergie has a word with him like he did with Young.

Do you think Hazard looked for that pen or it was a fair shout Watford?

He certainly looks like he will be involved in controversial incidents every game.

There seems to be a slow changing of opinion with regards to this issue.

The problem we have is that a dive that wins a pen advantages the team and thus most fans used to turn a blind eye to it because winning is the most important thing. However we are now seeing fans turn on their own players because it is embarrassing to witness, which is a good thing!

There should be a panel that can retrospectively punish divers and that would stop it imo. As far as a club being able to show contact in an attempt to justify it, if the panel just made a decision based on their own opinions then it wouldn't matter! They will get some wrong but overall I believe that it will stamp it out. <ok>

It's hardly been a slow changing of opinion, many fans have made their feelings about diving perfectly clear for years, Ronaldo was a tremendous player for United but the fans openly spoke of their frustration at how easily he went to ground, the same can be said for Nani during his time at United and even Drogba for Chelsea. The only thing that seems to have changed recently is that English players are now getting media coverage for diving instead of just the foreign players. In the past players like Klinsmann, Ronaldo and Drogba were constantly in the spotlight for diving while the English players (and we all knew they did it too, maybe not as often but they still did) would barely get a mention.

Francis Lee, Stan Bowles, Alan Clarke, Malcolm McDonald etc.

    See the trend?

All English and all from way before the massive influx of foreign players.

My point was that whilst Ronaldo et al were criticised for it, the fans of the respective teams used to deflect it with "...but so and so dives too" and stuff like that and somehow tried to justify it because most of the times the teams benefited from the diving! Imo that is slowly changing, on the match thread yesterday people were saying that they wanted Hernandez to miss cos it was embarrassing...a few years ago I never saw stuff like that!

I didn't want him to miss, because thats nuts, but I think its justice he did.

I like to apply the "Liverpool test" to all contentious decisions to keep my natural bias in check. If that had been Suarez diving in the box and getting a penalty against us I would be fking livid!

Likewise for stuff like card waving and feigning injury, don't like it. Wish refs would stamp that **** out.

Ofc its much easier to forgive and forget it when its your players doing it as opposed to rivals.

Maybe the opposition had something to do with it, United were expected to win regardless of the pen, so I suppose it is easy to say 'I hope he misses' when realistically you are going to win anyway! I don't imagine if that was against Liverpool next week with 5 minutes to go and Welbeck did his now customary dive that United fans would say, 'thankfully Rooney missed the pen as that was a complete embarrassment'.

So yes it is nuts when you think about! <ok>

I wouldn't want to justify welbeck's -which was embarassing and cringe inducing. Like most here I would like him to cut it out..BUT in terms of notoriety and fame for diving and cheating Suarez and hazard are well known not just here but all over the continent for diving at the earliest opportunity.. <ok>

I thought Welbeck's dive was embarrassing but I'd be a liar if I said I hoped that the Pea would miss, although I told my son he would miss as almost everything that Chicharito does involving a second's thought tends to be a cock up.

It is good though that some fans are condemning their own players for cheating and that the English players aren't being excused as much as they were. I would love to see players banned retrospectively for diving.

I don't get the need to dive or cheat. I played very, very, very low level competitive football 15 years ago and in all honesty I can't recall ever trying to con the referee by diving.

If any of you watched the game you would know that Welbeck lost his balance and fell over, he never dived, he never put his hand up for a fowl and he never even turned around to look at the ref. I have no problem with people calling for dives like Welbeck did for England to be punished but please allow someone to fall over accidentally without calling everything a dive. If you watch the conversation between Al-Habsi and Welbeck before the kick was taken the keeper say`s "no penalty" and Welbeck looking shocked nods his head and say`s "i know".
